There seems to be some effort put on just for the opening title scenes in this episode. The director has managed to find a waterfall in the Yorkshire Dales, for a moment I thought I was watching Twin Peaks.

Right from the off we see Compo doing Singin in the Rain with a little dance as Nora throws dirty dishwater at him, even the number of jokes have increased, it makes you thinks that this might had been an aborted Christmas special.

The legendary Geoffrey Bayldon is the guest star as Broadbent, he wants to give up all his worldly possessions and live life with just nature. Probably a good thing as Foggy was adamant that he just wanted to borrow money.

Broadbent before he goes off to rough it up in the Dales gives his rusty old van to the trio. The boys are initially pleased with the gift until they discover that in the back of the van is Mrs Broadbent, she comes with the van and our trio cannot shake her off.

There is a nice scene with Smiler getting conned again by Auntie Wainwright with a thingamajig and the episode shows that writer Roy Clarke could still every now and then stray away from his formula.
