The Town That Wasn't There
jcolyer122929 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Towns competed for the railroad when it came west, and Silver City is one of those towns. It is the town that wasn't there, literally moved piece by piece to be near the railroad. Silly, I think! Anyway, Shanks is a crooked railroad man, trying to drive down the price of land, and bug-eyed John Astin owns Lambert's well, a much needed water source. The plot twists and turns. Beau wins what is believed to be a petered out silver mine only to discover it is not worthless after all. Roger Moore appeared in 14 episodes in season 4. Like others who got their start in Maverick, Moore went on to big things, starring in 7 films as James Bond.

Weird, Wild, wonderful and moving- towns that is
lbowdls6 July 2023
This maybe my favourite episode I've seen yet of Maverick! And who would have thunk it that it would be Roger Moore's first solo episode at Beauregard Maverick.

It is so different, so much fun and not too cringe worthy like I've found some previous Maverick's. Except maybe the poor Stage Driver and old timer seeing a town that wasn't there and then it is again! But that's so funny! And despite the fact that Beau talks a townspeople to keep moving their town to try to get the best of a Railroad man, this episode is much more linear than most episodes.

Of course the highlight of any show is John Astin, here in one of his early roles being one of his crazy but oh so loveable characters. This episode is an absolute golden hoot- sorry make that a silver hoot!

When the railroad comes to town
bkoganbing7 October 2018
Roger Moore got to carry a Maverick episode with the third episode of season 4 when as a gambler he tries to take advantage of the railroad coming to town. Even to go so far as to move the town to where they think to take advantage of a water supply.

Two performances stand out in this episode. The first is Richard Hale who plays the railroad agent and a miserly old skinflint who is trying to pick up some cheap bargains for a right of way. He's such a tightfisted man that it almost becomes a solemn duty for a Maverick to skin him.

The second is sheep rancher John Astin who plays a real country bumpkin and overacts outrageously. Him you'll remember.
