My Daughter Loves It
gonplanb13 April 2016
My two-year-old daughter has watched all the Pooh movies, so, it goes without saying she loves Pooh. We watched this version on Hulu, and she loves it, also.

The characters are marionettes and puppets (with exception to Christopher Robin and his mother), and the voices are not at all similar to what we've become so familiar. BUT, it's sweet, and it's musical. Please keep in mind that this production was made before the animated films, and certainly there will be differences. It is exactly what children in 1960 would have watched. And, my daughter was excited to see all the characters, and to see Christopher, as a real boy, playing and pretending with his toys. Perhaps it deserves more than an 8 rating, but I wasn't sure how to rate it.

Creepy

I got the DVD that contained this episode off of Netflix, and I saw a sneak peek to see if I would like it, but no. It freaked me out. All those puppets. (shudders) I like the puppets for the show "The Book of Pooh" better because that is a present-day show, and they are also puppets, not marionettes. Puppets are not scary at all. If anyone remembers "Welcome to Pooh Corner", this is what it is like: Scary and Creepy.

I can just judge just by the beginning of the film. When I saw Pooh singing, I had to shut my eyes because he looked so creepy. And that voice he had. That is not Pooh Bear. The only people who can get Pooh to sound just right are Sterling Holloway and Jim Cummings. So, just be my guest if you want to see this. I'm not stopping you, I'm just putting my two sense in, and saying it's creepy and will give you nightmares.

Here's another tip: The Disney Pooh is so much better.

WONDERFUL- WITH NO STRINGS!

Bil Baird is still considered one of the best puppeteers ever! His marionettes are magical. When he passed, Michael Jackson bought many! In NYC he had his own theater and presented shows weekly. He was also the puppeter in the movie The Sound of Music.

This version was made before the Disney adaptations and i about the best of the Shirley Temple Theater. The songs are terrific. I only wish the voices were down by more famous actors. But nonetheless, this is a magical version from a more innocent time.
