Michelle Rodriguez is one of Hollywood’s most popular “tough girl” actors. She got her start in independent films but quickly transitioned to major franchises such as the Fast & Furious movies. Uncompromising and straightforward, Rodriguez has also acted prolifically in television, including in the TV series Lost. Many of her characters have something in common, in addition to their tough personas — they all die horrifically onscreen. Even James Cameron opted to kill off her fan-favorite Avatar character, revealing later that he very much regretted eliminating the chance for Rodriguez to appear in the sequel.

At some point Channing Tatum went from man-candy (what? It's been said) to movie star. His star rose when Step Up stole the hearts of romantic comedy lovers that had waited too long for a new dance film. Seemed like Save The Last Dance had been decades before, despite the fact it actually released only five years prior. But, let's take a look back at Channing's filmography and see exactly where Tatum became something more.

June 11 marks the 35th birthday of actor Joshua Jackson.
While Jackson has had various TV and film roles in the decade since "Dawson's Creek" wrapped, he is perhaps best-known for his part as Pacey Witter on the beloved television show. Jackson played the show's resident bad boy from 1998 through 2003, wooing Katie Holmes' Joey Potter and engaging in copious shenanigans in the small town of Capeside, Massachusetts. In the years since, Jackson has held a lead role in the Fox show "Fringe," as well as appeared in films such as "Inescapable" and "Battle in Seattle," but to many fans, he will always be Pacey.
Below, Jackson and 15 other actors who can't escape one role.

Editor's note: A version of this review originally ran during the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. "The East" opens nationwide on Friday. Suspenseful, ludicrous, fascinating, and utterly unsubtle, Zal Batmanglij's "The East" plays like an unholy mash-up of "Martha Marcy May Marlene" and "Alias." The film builds on the themes of cult and identity that Batmanglij and his star Brit Marling explored artfully in their breakout debut "The Sound of My Voice." But here, that psychology is in service of a fast-paced espionage potboiler. As Sarah, Brit Marling plays a former FBI agent turned private security consultant who is paid to infiltrate a radical environmental group called The East. She more than confirms buzz that she will be one of film's next major leading women, and she's working with a strong set-up for a thriller, in a community that couldn't be more relevant in the age of Occupy Wall Street, and...

There's plenty to admire, but ultimately this thriller is as.

Halo sounds a certain way to longtime fans of the series. If you ask anyone who's played through the campaigns of the main titles in the series, composer Marty O'Donnell's score has been integral to the Master Chief and Cortana's galaxy-spanning adventures (to the degree that even O'Donnell's own jazzier compositions for Odst were met with doubt and confusion by fans).
But with 343 Industries taking over the franchise from Bungie, the Kirkland, Wa-based developer had to think about what was next sonically for the series, vetting several candidates to give the first game in a new trilogy its own sound. And as Neil Davidge, the man who would eventually get the gig tells it, they didn't want to do the usual film composer doing games things.

Stuart Townsend's career has taken him from playing the undead in Queen of the Damned to being a part of a team of superheroes in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, to being behind the camera as the director and writer of Battle in Seattle.
In his newest role, Stuart Townsend plays a former secret operative who has been stripped of his memory in Reelz's new original series Xiii. He does not know who he is, what he is trained to be or whom he serves. All he has is a tattoo of the Roman Numeral "Xiii"…and the skills of a highly trained secret agent. Hunted by a dark anti-government organization, Xiii searches for clues that will uncover the secret that makes him so valuable—and so potentially dangerous.

The suspense is killing us: Friday's release date of Magic Mike can't come soon enough. I want to wail at male celebrity ass in the company of scandalized housewives and hopeful gay dudes right now. Until then, we'll have to settle for revisiting the career of Magic Mike star Channing Tatum and agreeing on his hottest moments. There are some naughty, naughty pictures of him out there, and we've tried to include the most work-palatable items only. So let's do this.
10. Channing establishes his Casanovan comeliness in Dear John
Our preferred Amanda Seyfried vehicles of choice may be Mean Girls and Jennifer's Body, but Dear John provides a fine slice of damp Channing, and that means the AFI should hold commemorative festivals in its honor. Hard to pick a definitive Nicholas Sparks hottie among Ryan Gosling, Zac Efron, and Tatum, but he's a major contender.

There's one person who's pretty much inescapable in movie theaters at the moment, and that's Charlize Theron. Last weekend, she was the evil queen Ravenna in "Snow White and the Huntsman," and this weekend, she's the biggest name (although not the biggest part) among the ensemble cast of "Prometheus" -- a film that she was originally pegged to play the lead in. And in a few weeks, she'll start filming on the long-gestating "Fury Road," George Miller's return to the "Mad Max" world. Between those three, she's become the queen of the blockbuster world, and with a performance in "Young Adult" that might have been her most widely acclaimed ever, Theron's as big a star as she's ever been.
But curiously, it's taken a little time for it to happen. Theron's been a familiar presence on screen for fifteen years now, since breaking through in "2 Days In The Valley" and "The Devil's Advocate,...

Red Tails scribe John Ridley will be making his directorial debut, featuring André '3000' Benjamin from hip hop duo OutKast, as legendary guitar maestro Jimi Hendrix. Benjamin has been a big presence in developing the feature, according to Iftn [via Geek Tyrant], centering on the musician's time in England in the late 1960s, working on his now famous debut album Are You Experienced. It took Hendrix five months to record the album, which finally debuted in 1967. Production on All Is by My Side is expected to get underway in Ireland for six months in late May. This won't be Benjamin's first film as he's made appearances in Be Cool, Four Brothers, Revolver, Idlewild, Battle in Seattle, and Semi-Pro. He seems perfectly suited for the part...

Outkast's Andre Benjamin, aka Andre 3000, is developing and set to star in a biopic about legendary guitar player Jimi Hendrix. The film is titled All Is By My Side and is slated to start filming in Ireland later this month. Iftn reports (via FirstShowing) that the story will focus on Hendrix's time in England between 1966 and 1967 when he worked on his debut album, Are You Experienced.
John Ridley is making his feature directing debut. Producing is Tristan Orpen Lynch at Subotica Entertainment, Richard Kelly’s Darko Entertainment, and Britain's Matador Pictures. Ridley penned scripts for Three Kings, Undercover Brother, Barbershop, and Red Tails.
Benjamin has not been on the big screen since 2008, after starring in Be Cool, Four Brothers, Revolver, Idlewild, Battle in Seattle, and Semi-Pro. As a musician, he knows first-hand what it is like to be on stage. That, coupled with his uncanny resemblance to Hendrix, makes him a great casting choice.

For a brief moment, it seemed as if Charlize Theron was going to be struck hard by the Oscar curse. Following "Monster," she hit a bit of rough patch. Yes, she was nominated for "North Country" but the film didn't exactly make waves with audiences. "Æon Flux" was nothing short of a disaster, and "In The Valley Of Elah" and "Battle In Seattle" weren't quite received as well as the filmmakers might have hoped. However, the actress is set to make a big leap back into public view. Later this year she'll make another run at Oscar with a starring…...

Since winning the ultimate golden statue for her remarkably committed performance in 2003′s Monster, South African born beauty Charlize Theron has certainly suffered the post-Oscar winning curse or blip that for whatever reason happens to an incredible number of leading ladies these days. There was the horribly misjudged attempt to make her into a Milla Jovovich or Kate Beckinsale like action hero in Aeon Flux and Hancock that didn’t work out, or appearing in her then partner’s flop Battle in Seattle and another flop in Guillermo Arriaga’s The Burning Plain, and although she has given good performances in The Road and In The Valley of Elah… she has threatened to become somewhat as an afterthought. Her only notable screen presence has been the Dior ads!
Recently she seems to have made a conscience effort to turn that all around beginning later this year with Jason Reitman’s...

It looks like Charlize Theron is on the comeback trail. After a string of films that either underperformed or just weren't worthy of her talents--"Battle In Seattle," "In The Valley Of Elah," "The Burning Plain," "Hancock," "The Road"--the actress has lined up a formidable slate of projects. Next year she'll be starring in two major tentpoles, Ridley Scott's "Prometheus" and "Snow White and the Huntsman" and before the end of the year we may be hearing Oscar talk for her turn in Jason Reitman's "Young Adult." So when we hear the words "crime thriller" associated with Theron, we can't help…...

I Love to see Channing Tatum in comedic roles! He was hilarious in the Ron Howard-directed comedy ‘The Dilemma‘ with Vince Vaughn and Kevin James, and based on what I saw on my recent set visit, fans are going to really get a kick out Chan and Jonah Hill in their comedy ‘21 Jump Street‘ when it hits theaters next March.
Today (Sunday, July 3, 2011), you guys can watch Chan’s first ever comedic role, because ‘She’s the Man‘ will be playing on ABC at 3:00 pm Central /4:00 pm Eastern. Click Here to confirm show times in your area.
For those who don’t know, here’s what the movie is all about…

Kristen Stewart could make a leap from supernatural romance to fairy tale story.
While earlier report suggested that Universal were looking for a fresh face, The Hollywood Reporter claimed the leading lady of the "Twilight Saga" series has emerged as a major contender for the role of Snow White in "Snow White and the Huntsman".
The 20-year-old actress is added to the list of potential actresses to take the role along with Felicity Jones, Alicia Vikander, Emily Browning as well as Riley Keough, her co-star in "The Runaways". Unlike the four actresses, THR reported that she is not required to do screen testing for the part.
Should Kristen is indeed being considered, there is a chance she may join Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron in the cast ensemble. The "Eastern Promises" actor has been reported to be in negotiations to play the role of the Huntsman, while the "Battle in Seattle...

I'm not going to lie: other than his roughly 11 seconds of screen time in Public Enemies, I've yet to see anything about Channing Tatum Charming Potato that leads me to believe that he can act worth a pocketful of owl shit. He's just so goddamn wooden it's painful. And yet, I strangely like the guy. Maybe it's because he seems like a genuinely nice guy. He mostly shies away from the spotlight, he married his Step Up co-star and they seem rather adorable. I've heard he was good in lesser-known films like Stop-Loss and Battle In Seattle, yet for every one of those, there's a GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra or Dear John. Potato seems determined to make himself into a legitimate actor, but so far it's eluded him.
Here's the trailer for his next project, The Eagle. Previously called The Eagle Of The Ninth, which is a far cooler title,...

Does Channing Tatum have what it takes to become a serious actor? Up until now his filmography hasn't been particularly impressive, consisting mainly of drivel like Step Up, Fighting, Dear John and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, but he has also been taking on smaller roles in slightly more interesting movies such as A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, Battle in Seattle and Michael Mann's Public Enemies. He's also starring in Steven Soderbergh's Haywire and Kevin Macdonald's The Eagle, and now this week we have news that he will be starring in The Contortionist's Handbook, based on one of Chuck Palahniuk's favourite novels. That's not all either... apparently he'll also be producing the movie too. Written by Craig Clevenger, the book is about a man named John Dolan Vincent who finds himself in and out of prison and hospitals thanks to drug addiction problems and his various criminal activities.

As we’ve seen in the ‘Twilight’ franchise, there is no guarantee, for a multitude of reasons, that each film in the series will have the same director (or even the same actors), but the stars seemed to have aligned for ‘G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra‘ director Stephen Sommers…
TheWrap is exclusively reporting that Sommers (’The Mummy’, ‘Van Helsing’, ‘Tarzan’) will return to direct Paramount’s sequel to Chan’s $300-plus million grossing action film.
Back in April, MTV News caught up with Lorenzo di Bonaventura, the executive producer for both ‘G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra‘ and ‘G.I. Joe 2‘. Although Bonaventura was tight-lipped on details, he did confirm that they were working on the script with writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (”Zombieland”). An insider told TheWrap that “the studio is happy with the draft they turned in”.

Charlize Theron is a cultured, cosmopolitan actress who transformed herself to play Aileen Wuornos (to Oscar-winning effect) in 2003's "Monster" and threw herself into roles in socially conscious films like "Battle in Seattle" and "North Country." But the real sign of her worldly wisdom is her familiarity with none other than MTV's blockbuster reality show, "Jersey Shore."
"I know Snooki," Theron told MTV News Saturday night at Spike TV's Guys Choice Awards when asked how well she knew the show. "I know 'The Situation'. [I know] Pauly."
Theron's familiarity with even a few of the folks on "Jersey Shore" is a significant improvement on her storied history with "The Hills," which she discussed several times with MTV News. She even has a favorite of the Seaside Heights crew.

It's still not particularly clear how the small-scale drama Things Falls Apart is going to pull off the feat of making Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson look like a believable college football player, given that the man is 35 years old and his acting skills are, well, a little fuzzy. I'm not sure how Ray Liotta would help this situation, but he certainly can't hurt . Variety reports that Liotta has joined the cast of the Mario van Peebles film, which is already filming in Michigan. Given that Jackson's character is facing his own mortality in the film, and that Liotta's character is a doctor, I imagine Liotta will be playing a fairly significant role in things. Liotta is on a roll lately of appearing in films that nobody is seeing, from tiny dramas like Battle in Seattle and Powder Blue to notable flops like Observe and Report and Youth in Revolt. Will the...

Stuart Townsend is no longer behind the role of Warriors Three's leader, Fandral, in "Thor". The Associated Press reported that the 37-year-old boyfriend of Hollywood actress Charlize Theron has exited this Marvel superhero project just days before the production is kicked off on Monday, January 11.
Sources close to the production mentioned creative differences as the reason behind Townsend's decision to drop out from his role. Two particular sources, who wish to keep the anonymity because they were not authorized to speak on the record, additionally revealed that the "Battle in Seattle" director has since been replaced by a lesser known actor Joshua Dallas.

Marvel’s latest superhero to hit the big screens, and Kenneth Branagh’s comicbook masterpiece, Thor, may well have finalised it’s cast list.
Variety reports today that Stuart Townsend, Ray Stevenson, and Tadanobu Asano have been brought on to the project as Warrior’s Three, a trio of Norse God types who fight alongside the famous Asgardian hero. This from Variety:
Townsend, who last wrote and directed “Battle in Seattle,” plays Fandral, a character which was drawn in the comic book series based on Errol Flynn and his movies. Stevenson, the “Rome” star, plays Volstagg the Valiant, a hard-living brawler, a character inspired by Falstaff. Asano, best known for starring in “Mongol,” plays Hogun the Grim, the third warrior and traveling companion of the hammer-swinging Thor, who is played by Chris Hemsworth.
The three join an already bulging cast – including the likes of Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman and Stellan Skarsgård.

We reported just yesterday morning that Marvel is preparing to shoot their next big comic book film Thor in January, with director Kenneth Branagh now ready to get the story of gods and warriors from another dimension underway. And with that has come a few last minute casting decisions. Per a Variety article that has mysteriously disappeared off their site since it posted about an hour ago, Marvel has signed Stuart Townsend, Ray Stevenson and Tadanobu Asano to play The Warriors Three, a trio of Asgardian adventurers who fight alongside the Norse god Thor, who will be played by Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek). Stuart Townsend, who recently wrote and directed the excellent political drama Battle in Seattle, which starred his fiancee Charlize Theron, is best known for playing the vampire Lestat in Queen of the Damned and starring alongside Ryan Reynolds in Chaos Theory. He is also a frequent voice cast contributor to Robot Chicken. Ray Stevenson...

As far as I know (although I keep hoping they'll surprise us), neither Channing Tatum nor Jenna Dewan are in the third installment of the extremely popular 'Step Up' franchise they started in 2006. Regardless, I'll be one of the first in line with glasses in hand to see 'Step Up 3D' when it hits theaters next August.
'Step Up 3D' takes the dance battling global; The story follows a passionate, tight-knit group of street dancers (featuring Rick Malambri and Sharni Vinson with the returning actors Adam G. Sevani and Alyson Stoner) who find themselves pitted against the world's best breakdancers in a high-stakes showdown.
I just added a ton of photos from the set of the film to the CTU Photo Gallery. Also, Entertainment Tonight did a behind the scenes report for the first-ever 3D dance drama this past summer. If you missed it, you can watch...

DVD Tuesday April 28th, 2009 Battle in Seattle, 2008 Loosely based on the Wto (World Trade Organization) Ministerial Conference of 1999, Battle in Seattle creates a multiple protagonist perspective during the five days of protest within the streets of Seattle. While making his directorial debut, Stuart Townsend (actor turned director) apparently had a lot to say about the events surrounding the Wto conference, as he not only directed this film, but also wrote and produced it. For a first time director, Townsend ultimately did a good job, as the films execution worked on multiple aspects in production: from writing to directing. In fact, I believe it is the writing of Battle in Seattle that truly captures the sentiment of the film. While the Wto protest actually took place in November of 1999, Townsend’s capability to create semi fictional, yet realistic characters around a true event brings extra vulnerability to audiences, as everyone is...
