Boring

I found this episode to be quite boring. I am sure the story is covering the book. I am excited for the story to pick up again on the next episode.

Very Heavy

Warning: Spoilers
I can totally see why this episode is the lowest rated of the season because it is a very weighty episode that deals with some deep dark feelings. We see Marianne feeling numb to life as she is on the other side of the world from Connell so in an attempt to self harm she strikes a relationship with a guy who often ties her up and abuses her. Her constant feeling of emptiness and that no one loves her really takes it toll here and its clear to see she is very depressed and missing being with Connell. One of the last scenes where she is saying she doesn't want to continue with being tied up is really dark and undoubtedly speaks to the women who have been abused and raped and the feeling of helplessness that comes with that. Very dark episode indeed but it was portrayed in such a good way that I can't help but be amazed and have my eyes glued to the screen.

Unwarranted mediocre reviews

This episode was haunting.

I'm not sure if you need to have experienced some level of depression or extreme lack of self worth to be moved by this episode, but I found it to be so authentic and relatable. I wallowed in misery in a state of numbness right alongside Marianne.

My eyes were filled to the brim with tears throughout the scene at the end where Connell narrates his email. It was beautiful, and overall one of my favourite episodes.

Heavy if you try to take it in

Contrary to some reviews here, I liked this one better than some of the others. It might seem slow for some people for sure (they kept it short anyways so...), but this one gives a great perspective into Marianne's current mental state.

A beautiful, haunting synopsis on depression and loneliness through the eyes of Marianne
jalalbeydoun-2208530 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is one of the most incredible, depressing and saddening episodes of any tv show ever. If you have been in a place where everything feels empty and life feels meaningless this episode speaks to you in a way nothing ever has before.

Marianne is seen meeting a man who is polite and careful. She commands him to stop being nice and basically hurt her. He is seen speaking down to her, hurting her constantly during intercourse etc. The scene that really grabbed me was the photography scene where Marianne is seen topless and her hands tied while she looks down and tells him no. Absolutely perfect in my opinion and had me feeling completely empty.

relations
Kirpianuscus25 February 2023
It is easy to define it as an episode about toxic relation. In essence, it is only the episode of Marianne. A short episode about a fight to define to herself, accepting humilitions, bizarre relations , copies of the relation with her brother , forms of masochism and deep loneliness.

Well acted, well crafted story but basic virtue remains the image for define a helpless form of friendship, each of them - Marianne and Connell seeming isolated in pure strange relations.

My memory about episode remains around water falling in kitchen and the snow of the last minutes of episode.

In short, a good work, full of far to be so comfortable realism.

Taking Stock-holm away from home

A slow, and thankfully shorter episode. What started as Grange Hill then became Grease and has now turned into Fifty Shades Of Grey. Complexed.

As Anthony Bourdain would say, its very formulaic.
