If you’ve been putting off watching the terrifically adventurous Brendan Fraser-led “The Mummy” again, now’s the time to prioritize it. The 1999 film is one of a bevy of movies leaving HBO Max in June, the full list of which you can read below.
Also leaving HBO and HBO Max this month is a bevy of Tyler Perry’s Madea movies, “Rounders,” “She’s All That” and “Real Steel.”
If you’re looking to prioritize some selections, “Presumed Innocent” is one of Harrison Ford’s most underrated films (featuring one of his best performances) and the Melissa McCarthy/Jason Bateman comedy “Identity Thief” is good for some solid laughs.

Today we have a new poster for Elijah Wood's upcoming "Maniac" remake, which has been getting great reviews at film festivals. Check out the poster below, which features a tagline taken from the original 1980 horror movie. Plot: Just when the streets seemed safe, a serial killer with a fetish for scalps is back and on the hunt. Frank is the withdrawn owner of a mannequin store, but his life changes when young artist Anna appears asking for his help with her new exhibition. As their friendship develops and Frank's obsession escalates, it becomes clear that she has unleashed a long-repressed compulsion to stalk and kill. The new movie is directed by Franck Khalfoun (P2, Wrong Turn at Tahoe) from a script by Alexandre Aja (director of "The Hills Have Eyes" and "Piranha"). It will hit theaters in the UK on March 15th. A Us release has yet to be set.

There are many sides to Elijah Wood's acting career. One is the Frodo in Lord Of The Rings side, another the Kevin in Sin City side. As you can probably tell from this exclusive poster below, Maniac is definitely in the latter category.Directed by P2 and Wrong Turn At Tahoe's Franck Khalfoun, it's a remake of the 1980 film of the same name, with Wood playing Frank Zito, a disturbed young man who becomes a ruthless serial killer until, that is, he meets Anna (Nora Arnezeder), and falls in a very strange form of love. The annoying thing about Frank's love is that it reveals itself in a rather disturbing and rather bloody way. Think... scalping, basically, and you're 100% there. To get a better look at the film, check out the very gory red band trailer below. As for the poster, designed by Sam Ashby, that's a much less red affair,...

There is no doubt that an Elijah Wood led remake of the 1980 B-movie cult horror flick "Maniac" is an enticing prospect. Granted, it's coming from the guy who made the parking lot thriller "P2" and the movie no saw, "Wrong Turn At Tahoe," but Wood getting splattered in blood and carving up some people is certainly a far step away from Frodo. It's just too bad the results seem to be a bit uninspired. Looking like a first person shooter and a rip off of "Drive" all at the same time (in 2013 can we kill the '80s flavored electro music set against urban backdrops?), in this first six minutes of the movie, we see Wood seek out his prey and make his first kill. To be fair, it's pretty handsomely lensed, but it also feels a bit like a video game in a way as well. But then again,...

A bloody new red band trailer has been released for Elijah Wood's psycho serial killer thriller Maniac, which is a remake of the 1980's film. The new trailer is sure to make you cringe just a little, as there's a lot of slicing and dicing. Wood is just creepy as hell, he definitely has the look of a crazed serial killer.

William Lustig's 1980 horror flick Maniac has enjoyed a long and healthy shelf life as a cult favorite among horror geeks, be they curious youths or nostalgic old coots, so it should come as no surprise to learn that, yep, someone went and remade the damn thing. The original was a grungy, sweaty, and virtually plotless excursion into the mind of a madman who savages women and takes their scalps home to his harem of mannequins. While the film is very effective at delivering the garish visual display it is plainly going for, it's simply not that good of a horror flick on a visceral or psychological level. As a framework on which to hang some truly amazing special effects from a young Tom Savini, Maniac deserves a place of honorable mention, but beyond that it's little more than a nasty little grindhouse relic. So yes: obviously there's a remake,...

This trailer has sort of blown my mind. I think it’s mainly because we get to see Elijah Wood in a very gritty and dark movie for the first time (or for the first time in a long time). Lord of the Rings had it’s dark moments but when you watch this very Nsfw trailer, you’ll see what I mean. It’s also very different to his part in Back to the Future 2 (which I always like to reference) or equally in Happy Feet!
The trailer comes from the Cannes website via our pals at FirstShowing.net and shows Elijah Wood dominating women before killing them in what looks like very harsh ways as he plays the Maniac in Franck Khalfoun’s remake. The original trailer is completely screwed on the Cannes website but thanks to Alex who has spent time sorting it, we’re good to go!

We gotta admit, when we first heard about Elijah Wood starring in a remake of the 1980 splatter pic "Maniac," we figured it was just going to be another run of the mill genre outing. And having Franck Khalfoun -- the guy who directed two movies you didn't see, "P2" and "Wrong Turn At Tahoe" -- at the helm didn't exactly bolster our confidence. But when the movie selected for the Midnight lineup at the Cannes Film Festival, we wondered, could it be something more?
Well, we'll have to wait for the verdict to come in but until then, here are the first official stills from the flick, and yeah, as you expect, it gets bloody. Here's the synopsis: Just when the streets seemed safe, a serial killer with a fetish for scalps is back and on the hunt. Frank is the withdrawn owner of a mannequin store, but his life...

When hobbits go bad, they look like Elijah Wood murderin’ women in “Maniac”, a redo of the 1890 movie of the same name by William Lustig. Check out some set images from Wood’s latest, which finds the former happy-go-lucky hobbit engaging in some, er, not so happy-go-lucky actions with an unfortunate female victim. “Maniac” finds Wood playing Frank, a serial killer who works at a shop that sells antique mannequins, who gets his jollies off murdering women in an attempt to exact revenge against his mother, who had, not surprisingly, abused the little chap when he was a wee tyke. “Wrong Turn at Tahoe” and “P2′s” Franck Khalfoun directs. Wood stars, with Hank Azaria, Nora Arnezeder, Sal Landi, Délé Ogundiran, and Dan Hunter in the cast. “Maniac” features a screenplay by co-writer Alexandre Aja of “Piranha 3D” fame (though for my money, he’ll always be the guy who...

The last five years have been pretty quiet ones for Elijah Wood, who really hasn't done all that much outside of some voice acting work and a few smaller films. While some might assume he had been typecast after playing Frodo in The Lord of the Rings movies, he did have some interesting gigs immediately after The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King including Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Sin City and Everything Is Illuminated. This year he also starred in the pretty "out there" FX series Wilfred, and now he has signed on for another potentially edgy role in Maniac, a remake of the 1980 slasher film about a schizophrenic serial killer who scalps women to decorate his mannequin collection. But Frodo... what would Samwise think? The original film was directed by Bill Lustig (Uncle Sam, Maniac Cop) and starred Joe Spinell (who played loan shark...

Standing in line at the grocery store yesterday (following proper grocery story etiquette), I noticed among the Redbox selections was a movie called Ticking Clock, starring Cuba Gooding, Jr. And I thought, "That's where he's been!"
But when I returned home and checked iMDB, I learned that Ticking Clock was only a tiny fraction of the truth. In fact, Cuba Gooding, Jr. is probably one of the most prolific actors in Hollywood right now. The difference between Gooding and Nic Cage, however, is that, while Cage continues to release moves on 3,000 screens, Cuba Gooding, Jr. has become something of the King of Redbox.
Since 2007, Cuba Gooding, Jr. has made 10 movies. You've probably never heard of a single one of them. I haven't, even though along the way his co-stars have included Harvey Keitel, Val Kilmer, Christian Slater, Taryn Manning, Henry Rollins, Jason London, Lance Reddick, Ally Sheedy, Nicki Blonsky, and Ray Liotta,...

In his first movie, “P2”, Franck Khalfoun created a decently crafted, low-budget, direct-to-video thriller that caught some people’s attention, at least enough attention to land names like Cuba Gooding Jr., Harvey Keitel, and Miguel Ferrar for his second movie “Wrong Turn at Tahoe”. Okay, Miguel Ferrer may not be a huge catch, but he’s still rad. Joshua (Gooding Jr.) collects outstanding debts for the mob, and tells you early on that all he has to live for is revenge. He is calm and level headed about his duties, while his partner Mickey (Johnny Messner) prefers to slap his victims around. Joshua, in his surface tranquility, winds up being the most intimidating of the two. He isn’t going to scream at you or rough you up, and he won’t enjoy fucking you up. This isn’t personal, this is business, this is his job. But that won...

"Straight to DVD" is no longer a ghetto where good actors and bad movies go off to die; it's a fertile world of creativity where performances and personal stories elevate material beyond its low budget or bad marketing. Wrong Turn at Tahoe is a new film starring Cuba Gooding Jr. and Miguel Ferrer, and while it's not quite The Departed, it demonstrates how smaller films can find a place thanks to memorable, even powerful turns from its stars -- particularly from Ferrer, the longtime character actor who here settles easily into the role of Vincent, an aging mobster who finds himself engaged in a turf war.
