Doctor Who series 10 episode 10 is The Eaters Of Light. And we've been digging into it right here...
Well, I don’t know about you, but I’ve waited for 54 years for Doctor Who to explain why crows sound like they do, so now that they’ve finally tackled that important issue it’s time for our weekly round-up of callbacks, similarities and generally interesting things taken from this week’s episode. And as ever, if you’re sitting thinking ‘How can he have missed that?!’ (the answer is usually ‘ineptitude’), leave it down in the comments below…

It’s always important that an actor properly research for the role he or she is being cast in. For instance, to really sell the idea that you’re a hardened cop, you should probably at least know the basics of what your average cop goes through, and the mindset that creates for them. If you don’t, chances are audiences will see through your lack of knowledge and judge you hardcore. The same could be said about Tom Holland’s portrayal of Peter Parker, an American high school student. Would he be able to play an American high school student in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming when he’s only been to school in London (yes, the entire setup I’ve laid out is a stretch, but go with it, because it apparently led to something).

[“Gilmore Girls” fans have been waiting to hear the “final four words” for almost a decade, but it turns out not everyone was ready for them. Below, IndieWire TV Critic Ben Travers (a casual fan), Senior Film Critic David Ehrlich (a “Gilmore Girls” lifer), and TV Editor Liz Shannon Miller (who only recently binged the series) interpret the extreme feelings experienced in those final seconds and try to find an answer as to how we can all move forward, together. Be warned: the discussion contains spoilers for “A Year in the Life,” up through those final four words, and for more on the ending, be sure to read Senior Editor Hanh Nguyen’s report on what’s next.]

Ben: While it’s arguably belittling to “A Year in the Life” — which I liked quite a bit overall — to start asking, “What’s next?” so soon after completing the six-hour binge, I think the heavily teased “final four words” demand that we start there. To me, the reveal of Rory’s pregnancy felt like a classic cliffhanger ending setting up more narrative to come. And because so much coverage (including our own) led us to believe Netflix’s revival was here to provide the proper ending to a series denied one during its initial run, such a major last-second reveal could easily be seen as misleading to fans who were tuning in for some closure. There’s been no word from Amy Sherman-Palladino,...

Before she became a pop phenomenon, Britney Spears was just a fresh-faced teen from Louisiana with huge hopes and dreams - and these previously unseen pictures prove that Britney was destined to be a star. In the photos, which were shot in 1995 by fashion photographer David Baren, 13-year-old Britney posed in a variety of cute ensembles - including a truly '90s-era denim vest and ripped jeans - and showed off her now-famous dance moves in an abandoned warehouse. One look consisted of a schoolgirl skirt and tied-up tee, giving a nod to the outfit that would catapult her career just five years later. Alycia Lerer, the artist development manager who worked with Britney in the early '90s, spoke out about helping her style the look on the set that day, saying, "It's a good sign because it means I did something right with my styling of her! It's not just Rory. These 42 Doctor Who characters have all, in their own way, died and been resurrected...
Spoilers! Lot of them, for Doctor Who of old and new lie ahead. Including the (publicised) return of a face or two to Doctor Who series 9.
Cheating death is a fundamental part of the make-up of Doctor Who. It's lasted for 52 years so far, whether on television or in spin-off media, and that's in no small part because of the original idea to recast the title character in 1966, thus creating the concept of regeneration.
But resurrection has also affected the characters around the Doctor and with a new series about to start, that looks to be as prominent as ever. Heck, series 9 even has a two-parter called The Girl Who Died and The Woman Who Lived. Plus, we already know that apparently dead characters such as Missy, Osgood and River Song will...

Sharon Osbourne: We’re planning to revive “The Osbournes” This time, Ozzy will be sober, Sharon Osbourne said on a British talk show, adding that filming of eight episodes is set to begin in January with Kelly and Jack. No word on if it’ll be shown on MTV. "Ozzy’s decided he wants to do another few episodes, about eight, of "The Osbournes,’” she says. "It’s been 13 years since we first did it. He said for the three years we did he was drunk the whole time and he’d like to be sober.” NBC in talks for a live staging of Aaron Sorkin’s “A Few Good Men” Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, the producers of “Sound of Music Live” and “Peter Pan Live,” are involved in the talks to bring Sorkin’s 1989 play to the small screen. Popular in the 1960s and early 1970s with more rare appearances in the 1980s, 1990s and the 2000s, the anthology-style horror film has made a solid resurgence in recent years with such portmanteau releases as The ABCs of Death films and the V/H/S series.
With Mexico Barbaro, Fear Paris and other projects in various stages of completion, the anthology horror film looks to continue to be an important part of the horror cinema landscape.
Some anthology films employ a framing or wraparound sequence in an attempt to connect the segments that make up the film while others dispense with this classic Amicus-style approach entirely and simply present a collection of short films connected by genre.
Either way, a horror anthology film is ultimately about the quality of its individual segments and this article will take you on a tour of the greatest horror anthology segments of all time.

Boardwalk Empire begins in 1920. Its lead character, Nucky Thompson, is on top of the world. History is bending in his direction. He has established an elaborate criminal conspiracy that will funnel an addictive drug (alcohol) directly into the mouths of its consumers (most of America), all of it untaxed. What could go wrong?
Boardwalk Empire began in 2010. Its network, HBO, was on top of the world. It was coming off a decade which you could, with only a bit of hyperbole, referred to as the HBO decade. The Sopranos redefined what television could be; so did Sex and the City,...

Mark counts down 15 great episodes of The Simpsons from its often-overlooked past 15 years...
Last week, we counted down our list of the top 50 episodes of The Simpsons ever made. It's a tough list to make, picking out less than 10 percent of the 552 episodes broadcast to date, to select the very best of the best. This is despite the off-hand consensus of some viewers that the series has been total rubbish since season 10.
We don't hold much truck with this assumption. The Simpsons is an institution and to suggest that more than half of it is garbage is more than a bit reductive. Admittedly, there's much to support the argument that few episodes produced in the twenty-first century can quite stand up to the genius of the earlier canon, but anything would suffer in comparison to that golden age of the show.

The B-52′s are the greatest party band in rock history, and along with R.E.M. put the city of Athens, Georgia on the musical map in the 1980′s.
Formed in 1977, Kate Pierson, Keith Strickland, Fred Schneider and siblings Cindy and Ricky Wilson combined surf music, new wave, and thrift store fashion, and made something magical … and unique.
Ricky died of AIDS in late 1985, and after Rock Hudson, he was the first person I knew of to die from the disease. But his spirit lives on three decades later every time a classic B-52′s song is played.
This weekend is Kate’s 66th birthday, so let’s pay tribute to her, and the rest of the band for giving us so much happiness. What is the greatest B-52′s song? Here are my top five:

The Paul Verhoeven filmography screens at the Tiff Bell Lightbox through April 4th, culminating in a screening of his new “crowdsourced” film, Tricked.
Common wisdom dictates that cynicism and sentimentality are carefully linked, if not outright synonymous. In filmic terms, the most comfortable formulation of that argument is to align, for instance, romantic comedies with socially-acceptable (and, often, utterly noxious) notions of gender politics. Through the deployment of relationships and character profiles that support popular notions of how women and men behave, these movies are able to exploit comfortable mores in order to mainline easy pathos. What’s less common is to consider how that relationship between affect and effect can be subverted, perhaps because it’s relatively rare for truly subversive artists to be handed the proverbial keys to the kingdom.

In 1974, the Chilean filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky attempted to adapt the classic sci-fi novel Dune into a major motion picture. He recruited Orson Welles, Pink Floyd, H. R. The Seventh Doctor
Portrayed by: Sylvester McCoy
Companion(s): Mel, Ace
Tenure: 12 stories, from Time and the Rani (Sept, 1987) to Survival (Dec, 1989)
Signature look: Light jacket, panama hat, umbrella, plaid pants, and sweater vest, all adorned with far too many question marks
Catchphrase: The Seventh Doctor doesn’t have a catchphrase so much as a few recurring speech patterns. He rolls his Rs rather drrrrrrrrrramatically and he frequently jumbles idioms and well-known expressions.
Personality: The Seventh Doctor begins his tenure as a rather comical, light-hearted figure. Sylvester McCoy was known for his vaudeville-style clowning and humor and the early Seventh Doctor stories play into this. As his stories progress, however, he becomes a much darker, more still figure and he’s perhaps the most manipulative and deceptive of the Doctors. Paulina Rubio (Code name: “Still No Idea Who That Is”) finally got her Big Moment on The X Factor tonight. The occupant of the Britney Spears Chair of English Manglage and Barely Formed Thoughts has shone especially dim during her Season 3 tenure — particularly sitting alongside the high-wattage wit and wisdom of Kelly Rowland and the scrappy sparkle of Demi Lovato.
Unfortunately for Pow-leena (as host Mario Lopez prefers to overemphasize it), the Big Moment probably didn’t resemble what she and her management team had envisioned when she hopped aboard Fox’s second-most-popular reality singing competition (out of two).

Free Kelly Rowland!
Ok, Ok, maybe it’s too early for a melodramatic plea to Fox execs to release the charming Destiny’s Child star from a chair still stained with Britney Spears’ boredom drool. But watching the second episode of The X Factor‘s third season, I couldn’t help but feel like Kelly’s mixture of good humor, tactful candor and genuine sweetness are being wasted on a show where confetti cannons will always have top billing over actual contestants.
And just think: If Fox moved The Lady Rowland to American Idol‘s Paula Abdul Memorial Chair — and sent J.

Hey there, unwashed masses. I figured that since I am cooler than you, and know far more about the things you love than you do, I’d drop some knowledge on you, and clue you into some true underground gems that you rarely see people discussing. Being an expert on so many things is so tiring, that I scarcely get the opportunity to contribute anything myself, so I thought I’d just take a few minutes out of my day, and clue you in on some true genre masterpieces, that you’ve never even heard of.
1. Friday the 13th.
I’m genuinely shocked that I don’t hear more people mention this one. It has everything you need from a slasher film. You have thirty somethings portraying promiscuous teens at a summer camp in the woods, drinking, smoking pot and doing things 30 year old teens do in the nude. You...

The new poster for director Frank Pavich’s Jodorowsky’S Dune is here.
It is the story of legendary cult film director Alejandro Jodorowsky’s staggeringly ambitious but ultimately doomed film adaptation of the seminal science fiction novel Dune.
Jodorowsky’S Dune is Pavich’s first feature and the documentary had its premiere in Cannes at the 2013 Quinzaine des Realizateurs.
In 1975, Chilean director Alejandro Jodorowsky, whose films El Topo and The Mountain launched and ultimately defined the midnight movie phenomenon, began work on his most ambitious project yet.
Starring his own 12 year old son Brontis alongside Orson Welles, Mick Jagger, David Carradine and Salvador Dali, featuring music by Pink Floyd and art by some of the most provocative talents of the era, including Hr Giger and Jean ‘Moebius’ Giraud, Jodorowsky’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic sci-fi novel Dune was poised to change cinema.
“For me, Dune will be the coming of a god.

The Kickstarter campaign is over, and Spike Lee now has a little over $1.4 million dollars to make his next movie. Details are still being played close to the vest, but Lee is starting to assemble his cast, and is bringing an old pal back into the 40 Acres And A Mule fold. Michael K. Williams has reteamed with Lee for the movie, and the director has nothing but huge praise for the actor. "My Main Man Brooklyn's Finest, Michael K. Williams Has Joined The Cast Of My Newest Hottest Joint. Who Can Forget The Wailing Warning Of "Omar's Comin'!!! Omar's Comin'!!!"? Michael Killed It. I Feel That His Portrayal, His Complexity And His Humanity Of Omar Will Go Down As One Of The Greatest Characters Cable TV Has Seen," Lee posted to his Kickstarter page, once again showing his preference for capital letters. Williams previously worked with Lee on "Miracle At St. Anna,...

With less than one day left in Spike Lee's Kickstarter campaign, the director has begun pulling out some big guns. Hours after announcing that Stephen Tyrone Williams had joined Zaarah Abrahams in the cast of the untitled feature comes word that Michael K. Williams will co-star in the film as well. Williams, best known for "The Wire" and "Boardwalk Empire," had supported Lee's Kickstarter campaign with tweets over the last few weeks and worked with the director on "Miracle at St. Anna."
From Lee's Kickstarter page, where the director announced Williams' involvement.

It’s a club that the famous are dying to get into, literally. The 27 Club (The Forever 27 Club) is the name for an iconic group of influential musicians who all died at the age of 27. Their untimely deaths have often been connected with uneasy lives and psychological issues, with a lot of physical neglect in between, usually due to drink or drug abuse, or both. An independently published book named, “The 27s: The Greatest Myth of Rock & Roll” meticulously details the phenomenon. The author states, “More rock stars have died at 27 than at any other age.”
Bluesman Robert Johnson, who died on August 16, 1938, was an immense musician. His talent was unquestionable; he has been cited – by Eric Clapton, no less – as “the most important blues singer that ever lived”. Johnson’s untimely death wasn’t self-inflicted, and there are a number of conflicting opinions, but the general consensus is...

Wendy Williams is doing quite well, her talk show will will air until 2017.
Hm. Justin Theroux and HBO. Remember him on Six Feet Under?
Justin Theroux has joined the HBO pilot The Leftovers. Based on a book by Tom Perrotta, it follows the people of earth after the Rapture. That sounds a lot like Left Behind, but since this is HBO I’m hoping this book loses the uncomfortable bigotries.
Theroux isn’t the only hottie joining an HBO pilot, Bobby Cannavale has joined a Mick Jagger-produced pilot about a record executive in 1977 New York City. Don’t they know all the cool period dramas are set in the 1980s, these days?
And while we’re on the topic of HBO dramas getting their leading men out of their clothes,
there’s Bobby Cannavale‘s Boardwalk Empire role.
Ugh. In today’s I-hate-people news, Jezebel writer Lindy West...
