I get what is being attempted here but the whole thing just comes off fake.

Wow . . . Really?

I watched all the way through. Loved the facts and statistics. However it doesn't make up for the poorly thought through plot. I mean you can google or YouTube basic screenwriting and filmmaking. I think the point of the ending was to suggest a revenge or get back. Unfortunately it wasn't setup very well and the audience was not invested in any of the remaining characters. I noticed none of the case where in frame with any of the bigger names. That was edited well enough to go unnoticed; those cuts could have been more deliberate and audio of the main cast overplayed with the bigger names. I thought the Reverends dialogue was very good. There were several attempts to setup big emotional payoffs that just never cashed in. Of all of the cast you daughter, Jay and Tamala has the better performances. Jay and his daughter's story should have had some closure. The last seen with Kay and Tamala almost suggested them getting together but we see her husband when she's introduced and reminded of his existence in the seen with the Iraqi-American. This had so much potential but for all the things this film had going for it . . . The idea of a hero's journey is he/she/it is on a journey. This went nowhere.
Very Bad

I found it entertaining, its one of those movies where your like omg how long is this movie it feels like its been on for hours and 15 min has passed, only for it to end and your like wait is that it i was expecting more.
This film feels like it was supposed to be either longer or come in multiple parts. Im sad to say, i dont think the story will continue because most people wont even care and just write this off as a bad movie that has horrible storytelling. If Netflix doesn't get support for it we'll most likely never see what happens cause the ending is missing, as well as a lot of the story-line.
While i've seen longer run times on and much better plots on kids cartoons i dont think it was a complete waste of my life that i will never get back, i kind enjoyed it.

Are they serious?

Most of the acting is terrible even tho I get the message. But here's the deal: I'm from Chicago and went to high school in Englewood. It is one of the ROUGHEST parts of The Chi. So from jump, the whole storyline was false. I wish the writers could have been more authentic. I'm sure the budget precluded them from including top notch acting talent but wow. Hope volume 2 is better.

Touches on real AA Community issues

I'm a movie lover, but this is my first review. Yes, this is a 'B' movie (though I have seen much worse). Yes, the ending could have been a little clearer. What I loved is that this guy Mark Harris wrote and directed a film about his community IN his community and it touches on actual events/problems/solutions within the Englewood community in Chicago. I'm sure it was created on a shoestring budget, but I thought it was well produced. I could feel the actors passion in this project. I think Mark Harris is going to do big things once he gets a bigger budget!
Bad

This is an empty B movie that feels so void of anything and is so strangely quiet that it's unsettling. The story is like some 1970 Black Exploitation film only without an OTS.
The acting wasn't that bad actually which is rare in garbage films like this. I only watched 30 minutes of this before switching it off and forgetting I've ever watched it.

I watched the first half of this like 6 months ago but stopped so my watch could watch with me. Tonight the first half was changed. All the positive black messages were gone and it was FF to some garbage not sure what happened.

Warning: Spoilers
Thee upscale community of Englewood, Chicago is a low crime African-American neighborhood. The city has closed down a low income community and has relocated them in Englewood to the dismay of the residences. Then there is bloodshed in a story that ended abruptly as if it was a series,
The film has a number of asides to explain the history of block busting and red lining. I wasn't sure if the point of the film was a lesson on race or economics. The characters were not well developed or lovable.
Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.

This was not good at all. It started off like one of those Black Consciousness flicks but it took a turn towards Black Mafia. My guess is that the writers got fired mid-way and they brought in a new crew of writers and directors. This was a bi-polar flick. What a waste of good talent and time.
The most mediocre movie

Phenomenal movie with a phenomenal message
bjenkinsss23 August 2019
If you're unable to see beyond the movie and focus on the overall message.. you just won't understand. This movie gave me chills. It's real, it's educational, and finally a movie that doesn't set black people back. Must see!!!

This was pretty awesome for what it was! I loved the facts that they dropped and how they gave examples of how things should go in urban communities. I hope they m as keep a volume 2 so j can also show that one to my family as well. I wish we as a community could invest in this series because I would.
Great movie

I loved it ! My personal view is, those that have and will watch it will appreciate the factual information given. Some will say it's a 'little cheesy' but, you have to read in between the lines and expand your mental box in order to digest it.
