Howdy 🤠
10 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was beautiful but not for the reasons you might think! The majority of reviews I have read, by both layman and film critics were as if the movie is condemning toxic masculinity and how it become the downfall of the man. But quite on the contrary, this film is advocating the get tough or die motto. A message this soft generation madly needs!

It's almost impossible these days to talk over sexual identities without hurting someone's feelings. But all the yelling and nagging aside, there was a time and that's not so long ago that if a man wanted to survive he needed to buck up. Never mind the straight or the offbeat, one has to roll up his sleeves and kill the child inside to let the man be born! And this film is the story of those men.

1925 in the wild wild west. A fluctuating road from hatred to love. The cowboy protagonist catches sight of a simple good-for-nothing lad and despises the weakness in his eyes, yet along the way with all the new changes in the dynamic of his family, he takes a step back remembers his young self, and decides to teach the boy a lesson or two; a mentor in preparation for hard times, and the intimacy that's shaped between the two, which the level of it is subtly mentioned but left to be determined by the viewer alone.

Lastly movie reaches its climax in the very final scene, where we see the rope in the hands of Peter, finally finished. Tho the young boy shall never use it to whip a horse it played a far more important role; a symbol, a memoir of the man who changed him for the better and for the old-time rancher, may that it brought him a sense of happiness and achievement in his last days.

The Game (1997)

Underappreciated
29 July 2023
Released in 1997, just in between two of Fincher's master films, Se7en and Fight Club this movie never got the attention it truly deserved. Always overlooked by fans and critics, The Game stood in the shadow of Fincher's better films for too long, but it remained an absolute gem if you ask me.

A very fast-paced mystery movie, that keeps you entertained with all the shocker reveals and your mind in doubt under every twist! Dissolved immensely into the film, you can't know for certain whether it's all a harmless prank, a psychotic episode, a fun game, or a criminal ripoff. And oh boy nothing can prepare you for the final act, elaborate on multiple counts.

Another real-life story told by the great Fincher
23 July 2023
A very atmospheric movie, it was solid on all counts but if one ought to compare it with other works of David Fincher, then it didn't even come close! Take the example of the movie Se7en (1995) another Fincher film with the subject of a serial killer, superior in every aspect; 5 minutes into the movie and you're so emersed by the music and street sounds and the rain and everything, you forget that you're sitting in the cinema, hell you forget even who you are!! I wanted Zodiac to be of the same fabric but unfortunately, it wasn't.

Although Robert Downey Jr. And Mark Ruffalo both played very decent jobs, the movie mainly evolved around the other character, the nerdy cartoonist played by Jake Gyllenhaal. And hear me out it's a big flaw for a mystery/thriller film to have its focus only one guy, criteria which were masterfully mended in the Se7en, start to the finish, and in every scene, the tension to steal the focal point is present between characters, and to this day I can't tell you who was the main in that movie.

Only if Fincher didn't raise the bar too high =))

Listen very closely and you will hear things

If you're looking for a good mystery movie that you can't solve by yourself, gets you out of your chair, standing on top of your toes, this is your chance.

A cinematic reminder of how distant our perspective about the things we think we know for sure can be from the actual truth. How unreliable is our grasp of nature. And yet how hopeless we are to have no other choice than to rely on this raw intuition.

A path drawn, that soon takes everyone involved into the horrid empire of madness and remorse, But none more than the detective (Jake Gyllenhaal) who knows that the only way out of this labyrinth is to scour deep, deep to the very place that nightmares are born.

The first half of each episode is hands down great, the narrative that step by step explains how and why the crimes take place is over stunning, and even more exciting than that is to find out how our goofy human lie detector (Natasha Lyonne) is tied to each of the situations, indeed they crazy follows her, or is it she that follows the crazy?!

Maybe it's just me nagging but then I catch the second half of the episodes suddenly overly boring, like watching someone struggle to figure out a crossword puzzle, which you already solved.

Overall the first season finished fairly strong, with an arch that tied the whole thing altogether, but I'm not too inclined to watch the 2nd season, mainly cuz it's going to be a repetition of what we already saw in the 1st season.

My Favourite Hitman ✅
11 July 2023
Do you know how hard it is for an actor to do a good job playing the role of a bad actor?! One has to be so good and so bad at the same time to truly sell it. And oh oy, Bill Hader sells!

The flow is so strong and the characters so diverse in spirit that every scenario is possible, yet somehow always the funniest, most illogical set of events takes place. =))

Simply one of the best comedy series out there. Especially if you have some ties to the theater community, you will surely gratify to see backstage on the stage! Comedy as comedy should be...

And about my favorite mafia boss NoHo Hank, that guy owns his role like nothing I've ever seen before! It's almost a crime to not have him in more movies & series.

The force is strong in this one.
11 July 2023
God knows we are in desperate need of disabled people in movies, but does CODA truly the best movie of the year? Hell no! It was only upper mid.

It could have done so much better, but the narrative was so straightforward and one-sided that it killed the chase. So many great scenes were depicted during the movie but non were continued to the fullest except the main narrative as this girl tries to reach her dream to become a singer.

I wanted to see more about the other characters so so bad for god sake :/ Non-verbal characters were very well written and the actors did a superb job playing their parts, they all deserved an award.

Better safe than sorry
11 July 2023
Not the usual standard thriller movie, it is actually really slow-paced but don't be fooled the horror aura is present from the first minute and the atmosphere is so thick it almost feels like drowning on dry land.

A very engaging movie, the way the story is unraveled in small pieces, just keeps you guessing thinking you have it all figured out but only to be disappointed in the upcoming scenes! The psychological war tickles your brain in a good way, Indeed where do you run to when the source of the fear is from within?

Lastly, can we take a moment to appreciate Jessica Chastain for playing the role of mother & supportive wife so fine??

Hell and Back
11 July 2023
Such a great family movie watched it with my mom and little bro and we couldn't be more content. One of the better works of David O. Russell, the film dives deep into the lives of this problematic family out of Lowell, Massachusetts. Tackling matters such as addiction and toxic parenting, shows you this proud family at its lowest struggling with nothing to gain all because of the lack of self-belief. But the match aint over yet.

When you are faced with the consequences of your actions you have two choices; you either run away or you stay & fight, and what a fight that would be!

Shout out to Christian Bale, the living legend who once more went under severe weight change for the role he was given. Bravo 👏

Devastating yet Soul Soothing
25 May 2023
It is known that when the prophet Moses reaches the Mount of Sinai he asks God to reveal his face to him, which God in return says "that you shall never". A prominent Persian poet called Hafez wrote the upcoming paragraph regarding this story:

When you reach Mount Sinai, ask your wish but don't stay expecting it to be granted, because after all the true gift resides in hearing the mere sound of your beloved, not in his words saying that "you can never see me".

This film and especially Andrew Garfield's acting, got me more assured about my faith. At first glance it mostly shows the pain of believing, the difficulty to hold it, trying hopelessly not to stumble, but at a closer look in between each tense scene, there is an endless ocean of calm and peace present. Which is a masterful way to render exactly how faith works.

McLovin is G.O.A.T
25 May 2023
Even reading the names of the cast in the opening credits gave me goosebumps! All the comedy giants in one movie. Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen, Michael Cera, Emma Stone, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and Bill Hader!!! Such a delicacy.

Starts more or less the same as any teenage story, it shows the last day of high school, the end of an era, everyone is pumped and out of their mind and wants to throw the last epic party, at least that's the plan! But don't be fooled into thinking this movie is for kids only, it comes with guaranteed enjoyment for any age!

With so many broken stereotypes and dumbass characters, this film is a nonstop laugh machine. Awesome awesome stuff man!

And remember kids, cops can have a good time too, and don't drink alcohol until you're 21 😉

What's with all the hype around this movie?! I find it truly boring. Not gonna lie the combat scenes and watching those villages getting sacked by these strong Scandinavian men were legit, they did a decent job designing the set. But all the other criteria? Not so much. The entire movie could be summarized in a simple sentence, it's about revenge; an overused cliche of a young prince devoting his life to reclaim the throne of his father from evil forces. 👎🏻

And regarding those strange scenes with a shaman and the wordy monologues, they definitely meant something to the writer/director Robert Eggers and been put there for good reason, but again when you make a movie for mass media the meaning should be conveyed easily and it really didn't! Too tangled with myths to be enjoyed without losing your mind.

"I'm alone on this"
22 May 2023
One of the top performances of Al Pachino in any movie, they should teach this stuff as a reference in acting schools. In front of him, the great Russel Crowe seemed like a child playing with toys. Pachino was just on a different level. 👏🏻

A real treat from start to finish. The legendary director Micheal Mann had me on the tip of my toes once again. The story constantly shifts its focus point over these two guys, one scientist who put all his life in the line of fire, blindly trusting the other guy, and the other one, the journalist who is tougher than rock not letting his whistleblower burn, and the friendship that's made in between. The story was so pulling I was extremely excited to see how the finale will be.

In 1999, Insider walked so that 16 years later a film like Spotlight could run! What a great subgenre are these investigative journalism films. Count me as a fan.

Seriously?!
20 May 2023
Complete waste of time, give me minutes back of my life... This thing ( I don't even dare to call it a movie ) lacks a proper story and is just a collage made of semi-cheap shots without having any real plan or purpose. It's so bad that I'm obligated to write this review to save any potential viewers from watching this awful movie.

Maybe the only fun side of watching it was the second part of this damned movie; where it literally brings the camera backstage and shows the absurd struggle of making a movie in this era where all the laborers are millennials (25-35) who simply just don't care.

1/10.

Mesmerizing Sounstrack
19 May 2023
As a semi-silent film, you won't hear much people say, but this absence is never actually felt due to the mesmerizing soundtrack. One of the very best features of this film, coupled with wide-open shots of the pristine American landscape, they translate every emotion required for viewers to feel without having to use much dialog in the first place.

Starring Frances McDormand in the leading role as a 64-year-old woman who at first glance may seem ever so calm, while in fact is fighting an extended war within herself after the only life she knows begins to shift away from her. When every indication and reason tells her to slow the pace and make peace with this fast-changing world, she refuses to give up and clings on to what remains of the dreams and memories and the soul of the girl she once was.

In summary, tho it is a very slow-going piece and not much happens between scenes, in a wider picture, treating the movie as a whole, it grabs viewers' attention and sympathy at the fullest making it a nice movie to watch. At some point, you may even want to rent a trailer and go live on the road 😅

Genius without pants!
19 May 2023
Maybe it was a good hit back when it was first aired but looking back at it back in 2023, it doesn't do the deal. There were some catchy episodes and interesting topics now and then but in general they stretched it too much for so long that at some point even the writers forgot what the story is all about let alone the viewers.

Overall a medium series that lost all purpose and the consistency it had at the beginning of the 3rd season. Happens when you play with the timeline and parallel universes one too many times!!

Here are some of the names the smartest man in 2 universes Walter Bishop mistakenly called his cute assistant Astrid throughout the series: Asterisk Astro Asteroid Astringent Aspen Aspirin Esther Ashram Ascot Athos Alex Astral Astriff Agnes Asner Asgard, and my very favorite Ostrich!!

An Exquisite Fantasy Film 👻
18 May 2023
What I absolutely love about Sleepy Hollow and in general all of Tim Burton's films is that he lets the aesthetics tell the story on his behalf. A combination of gothic stage design and gloomy camera lenses dancing to a melody of pure innocence and thrill.

In their 2nd collaboration ever, Johnny Depp once more helps Burton to create a corner that binds the fabric of reality to the dream. We follow the story through the eyes of an aspiring young constable from the big city of New York, who is very fixed on scientific methods, but soon we find him shaken as the world he knows gets distorted by the powers at work in this lonesome desolate town...

More of this
16 May 2023
Keep the sequels going and Detective Blanc gonna be the next Hercule Poirot!

Storywise the movie does not have a moment of dullness, maybe the ending seems a little bit cartoonish and childlike but as far as solving the mystery of the glass onion goes, it is all pleasurable. Considering most of the cast didn't have a lot of lines to say, they managed to be convincing about the characters they played to some degree, sufficient I'd say.

Surely a hefty successor for the 2019's Knives Out, had me cheered and puzzled throughout. And with the 007 series over and done maybe this could be Daniel Craig's new thing!

Horror Implied
12 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Many fragments of good cinematography and scene writing were found but as an overall whole it didn't tag me along as it should, main protagonist's acting was awfully bad, and the down credit goes as well for the director and his inability to get the right acting out of the cast, highest valued element of the movie was its unsoundtrack, very good.

Spoiler: The key concept and the great reveal of the movie are the video records of the murdered families, but it's not logical for the detective to watch them over and over again throughout the film, I mean it's damn clear if you found similar video records in both of murdered families houses, ain't that a possible connection?

Action movements were edited in a way as if it was intentionally trying to be a comedy! But I shall forgive it considering this movie was made in 1986 and I'm watching it in 2023, 37 years later.

Master of Dialogues
12 May 2023
Many in the filmmaking industry would write only one or two characters for their film as mains. Lucky few would add extra depth to their work by giving lines to tertiary characters. But the genius of Martin McDonagh is that unlike other writers he creates the whole god damn town for his script! From the policeman to the storekeeper, from the town loon to the donkey! Yes even the animal; everyone is like an irreplaceable gear, ticking at a synchronized tempo to forward the work.

Tho I didn't very much like the story, the film still offered lots of features. The Cinematography was mesmerizing, each shot more beautiful than the last, and wide angles dissolved you into the rich-colored landscape. Top that with superb acting and performing some of the best dialogues ever formulated makes this an unforgettable film no doubt.

The Scorpion and the Frog
12 May 2023
There be times that you want to get behind the wheel, tune in to a cool radio station, and just drive. Aimlessly through the dead of the night, that's where this movie leaves you at.

Story of a detached guy with a strict code. Who builds cars during the day and moonlights as a getaway driver by the night. Yet even the most professional can make mistakes too, he lowers his guard for a neighbor and they bond with each other as they go on. But in this city, happiness doesn't last long and both our main characters are soon drowned in games no one wishes to play. The game of the scorpion and the frog.

Several songs are played in the movie each deserves a spot in a night drive playlist, my favorite is Kavinsky - Nightcall. Here is some part of the lyrics fit to explain the mentality of our main character: There's something inside you / It's hard to explain / They're talking about you, boy / But you're still the same 🎵

Dinosaurs Rule
11 May 2023
Ahead of its time; self-driving cars, interactive touch screen monitors, and all of these in 1993! Spielberg could be a hell lot richer if he had those patented back then =))

Delightful movie, most definitely pleased every type of audience it got. Kids love it, grownups relate to it. I mean is there anyone who doesn't like dinosaurs?

Visuals, story, characters, musical score, everything was on point. Destined to sell high from the beginning. And with Laura Dern's smiles & Jeff Goldblum trying to explain Chaos Theory at every chance he got, I couldn't help but fall in love with this film.

Here is a list of all the dinosaurs shown in the film: 1. Brachiosaurus 2. Parasaurolophus 3. Triceratops 4. Tyrannosaurus Rex 4. Dilophosaurus 5. Gallimimus 6. Velociraptor.

Abandoned Ruin of a Dead Civilization

On the topic of criticizing art, one ought not to look for an exact meaning in each and every sentence, true beauty is about the feeling that you get reading between those lines, it's about the music you hear where none is singing but your soul! And my soul plays a wonderful tune while watching this series.

Seeing the world as it is, the one we're currently living in, with all its pain and misery, more than once I found myself asking the question how can be more just? Maybe if there was a server reset option available, like in those online open-world games! Where all could start anew, maybe that way the oppressed and the sick could have a competing chance; Such an idea may seem imaginary at first but it always was and still is within the reach of mankind, only one discussion away.

Various cults that are shown in the series and average citizens stoning them just because they made them remember the choices they have is the true representation of this duality of man. Doing right for himself or everybody else... and if 2% percent of the whole population vanishing ain't enough for us to sit & decide, then I don't know what is.

Welcome Home Son! 🎉
11 May 2023
There is something appealing about the southwestern accent and households, I absolutely love it. And when we add Coen's distinctive style to it, the result is just mesmerizing.

A place where the robbers tell the store owner they stole from, to count to 825 and back around to zero, or else they come to check and the owner actually does it! And the robbers actually come back!!! :)) It's comedy at its finest.

It's a land of contradictions and possibilities. A land where a good-for-nothing con can fall in love, and an avaricious businessman will teach you the true meaning of family.

It's the state of sunset and happy endings where good always prevails.

Music of Silence
10 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
To be honest I didn't get all the hype around this movie the first and even the second time I watched it. Then one day scrolling over the Internet absorbing knowledge about movies and stuff (casual Saturday night! Lol) I came across an article that changed everything.

It was over the various improvs that made their way into the final cut. One of them caught my eyes: In the very last scene of Lost in the Translation, where Bob Harris and Charlotte are having their farewell, Bob reaches to hug Charlotte and says something in her ear, inaudible to the audience tho. It was an unscripted move and a very strong scene. Eventually, they decided to keep that in the movie. After the shot, Sofia Coppola the director goes to Bill Murray and asks "What did you tell in Johansson's ear?" to which Murray replies "You shall never know." with a smile.

Sometimes when I feel lonely and not understood by people around me, I think about that scene, what did he say to her really? Several answers pop up but none am I going to write here because none is more meaningful than not knowing exactly what went down there, the uncertainty makes it more true. The cobalt-blue ocean of endless possibilities each more exciting than the last.

And you don't need any translation for that. :)
