One more person telling you all, THIS IS REALLY GOOD! SEE IT!
22 January 2011
For gods sake this film has got a slap from people My beloved Empire magazine didn't like it and the rating on this website is just sad.

Being a fan of everyone in the film, I'm glad to say I loved them all.

Cameron Diaz was used much better than people gave her credit for and Seth Rogen reminds us why he's a comedy king. I love Rogen So see it, for gods sake see it. But NOT 3D, there is one montage that makes the 3D look wuite cool, but I don't think it's that essential I found the direction inspired from the great Michel Gondry, who has proved to be one of the most exciting directors working at the moment One scene in which Seth Rogen takes a girl home and shows her around all of his cars, I felt the thrill of originality.

This is thoroughly enjoyable very solid film, and I can't wait for the sequel. Please go and see it....for me.....I'll give you a chocolate....promise

David Fincher Is God
13 November 2010
Mr. Fincher I love you, and I love you again I have been looking forward to this film since it was announced, but I became really really interested when I found out Aaron Sorkin wrote the screenplay, who has written many wonderful things including Charlie Wilsons War, a little favourite of mine From the beautiful direction, to the use of music (Trent Reznors score), to the use of digital (which I'm proud to be sold on and glad David Fincher is as well), to the incredible performances thanks to Davids numerous takes. I am told the opening scene went to 99 takes, and it shows, beautifully.

I was hoping this film would have universal themes in the making of something of the now and that's exactly what I got Jesse Eisenberg who is officially one of my fav actors now after seeing him in The Squid and The Whale, Adventureland, Zombieland (I still have to see Rodger Dodger) and now this. He gives a stellar turn as Mark Zuckerberg. An unconventional leading character for a film is not unusual for Fincher Andrew Garfield was excellent and could make a great spider-man and I hope he has a long career.

Rooney Mara was great in all her scenes and I can't wait to see her in 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' Justin Timberlake once again proves to be the real deal, following his great performances in Alpha Dog and Black Snake Moan, he is indeed the real deal David Fincher just goes in the most exciting directions, from Alien 3, Se7en, The Game, Fight Club, Panic Room, Zodiac, The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button and now The Social Network His films are haunting and inspired, he is addicted to intelligence and driven to scar his audiences.

Some have been calling it Finchers best film since Fight Club. This can't help me think about how Tyler Durden says ''Welcome to Fight Club'' Mark Zuckerberg says ''Welcome to Facebook'' Both make me think about what coming into certain worlds does to us in the long run, if it will bring good and bad.

I will adore this film forever

Absolute Heaven
14 June 2010
I can't tell you how I long for movies like this. I'd love to see it at the movies. It's effortlessly lovable and wonderfully paced and shot I simply drool at the puppetry in this film. The nostalgic punch to my heart it gives me is something I'll cherish forever...in other words I'm proud to own the DVD. This is rare classic.

And judging by other people who have given it a 10/10 along with me, some haven't taken to it as much. But that's there loss Jim Henson once stated that something he wanted to do in life was leave it a little better than it once was.

I hope he feels he did...because this film does. Even if it was all he did...but he did so much more. And I heard he was a nice bloke...with a beard

I really freakin like this movie - Great Job from my favorite director
13 June 2010
I had bought the DVD, thinking it was just an average movie. But because Tim Burton was my favorite film director and I thought it was only okay But watching it again, I'm one of the the few --probably on the planet--who really likes this First of all you really need to accept this film is not a remake, and I like the story more.

Many criticize the direction, and I've found as an older person, I really liked it much more than when I was younger. In fact I was twelve when I saw it in the cinema -- the violence disturbed me, but I love the ending. I still love the ending Not enough films (or at least big films) have a finale like this, in fact that was one of the criticisms on Minority Report (which I need to watch again) But my favorite director of all time has made a film people consider his biggest fault, they don't like Alice in Wonderland either I love both, I love all his films.

I'm proud I have the DVD, and don't need other people to like it as much to make me feel like I'm allowed to feel that way Oh and the cast and acting are wonderful, so is the make-up. I love eye-protein

Kick-Ass (2010)
10/10
This film has made my life greater - Ultra Violent and Perfectly Paced
1 June 2010
Let us all Bow down to Matthew Vaughn for what he's done here

I saw Kick-Ass three times at the cinemas, and that ain't enough The first time I saw it. I went to the Coffee shop to finish the coffee I had left with them before seeing the film My eyes were wide beyond belief, I had seen a film with so many great things it felt like more than one movie.

The cast was absolutely ace, every one of them. No doubt Chloe Grace Moretz steals the show, and lets remember it's her talent that makes this fully work. No doubt the material is great, but she has the dramatic backbone to hit the beats (even if those beats are saying the word 'C@nt') Nic Cage is a revelation doing an Adam West, Aaron Johnson slides into the role brilliantly, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse proves he can be more than just Mclovin showing genuine acting skills and has a me rooting for him to succeed. Mark Strong is just fantastic as the bad boss.

To be frank when I was in the coffee shop, this film felt so great it was like it was unfair. But it does exist, it's not going to go away, and as I type this there is already a sequel announced

Life has become greater because of it I cannot thank all those involved enough for it :):):):):):):):)

I Worship This Crazy Funhouse Film - It Provides Me Massive Euphoria
1 June 2010
Not only has this film given me one of my new favourite characters of all time. That being the lead with Nic showing off his skills again

I would have absolutely killed and still would to see this at the cinema But it went straight to DVD here

I rented it on the first day I could, watched it, loved it and then watched it all over again.

The scene with the iguanas made me laugh so hard with it's audacity, I wasn't making a sound at all. Just a funny facial expression

Those who don't get it have mot films on the shelf to choose from, this film is an absolute rarity, it is exquisitely acted and directed by the GREAT Werner Herzog. For someone who has only seen his doco 'Grizzly Man' which I absolutely loved. I'm looking forward to seeing his other ones

This film really is a grand adventure with a wonderfully subversive cop who calls an old women a c@nt.

I give it 100/100

Jackie Brown (1997)

Nothing I can say will do this film justice
31 May 2010
Some have a problem with the running time, they say it drags They say, it kinda sucks compared to Pulp Fiction I AM NOT ONE OF THEM I'll keep this short The casting and acting is flawless.

It's a comedy, a drama, a crime film, it has one of my favourite characters in movie history (Ordell Robbie, played to perfection by Samuel L. Jackson) The real treat of the film is that it's a slice of life look at people dealing with age and facing retirement. Ordell knows he can spend the rest of his life spending, Lewis can't smoke a bong properly anymore, Jackie Brown and Max Cherry are both stuck in jobs that will have them with things that ain't worth a damn Quentin Tarantino said he made this film for black audiences and everyone else is invited. And while I've enjoyed everything he's made, this one I can't fault and the parts I love, I love more than in his other films and a lot of other films I love in general This film is a rarity - how many films do you see with an African-American women of Pam Griers age have a roll like this in the film She looks absolutely stunning and is quite simply excellent in the film, as everyone is.

Tarantino still uses references from other films, the title sequence is from The Graduate. There is a shot of a womens feet (out of all shots of womens feet in his film, this is my favourite). There are references to things on television. There's a great soundtrack and so on and so forth I don't know if I'll ever see a film like it again in my life, but I prefer it to Quentins others because of it's adult themes and much more to Pulp Fiction because of the structure I give it 100/100

A Masterpiece - That's bloody underrated
17 May 2010
No doubt when I watched it at the Cinema the pacing was something I had to get used to.

This is grand intelligent film-making people. Hypnotic Cinematography, superb direction and performance from all those involved.

I saw it once at the cinema and rented it on DVD recently to see if I wanted to buy it on DVD. Yes I absolutely do, the more I watch it the faster pace the film seems, something I would recommend to those who found it to boring The cinematography is purely realistic. Bright and in our eyes as if we were there. The great Mann doesn't try and put us in our own time and gloss up the cinematography to make distanced from the era.

The sound is loud with it's Rat-a-tat ness that also strips away the space between you and the film. Some don't embrace directors ditching celluloid, I for one am sold on it, I guess that makes me luckier We are there, everything is visible and it's something once use to and watched again really works.

Another treat is our lead character (and John Dillinger is quite one indeed) is enigmatic. His drive is a furious one that fuelled his bank robbing.

To quote Empire Magazine Johnny Depp underplays John Dillinger to perfection. And he does, no clichéd Cagney Tribute. Dillinger feels real and out there all at once. We see his tears and vulnerability along with his balls of steel livin in the moment life style.

Once his mind is set on something. Nothings gonna change it. This brings in the girl of his dreams. Marion Coltillard plays her and really makes me sit up and take notice of her as an actress (something I did with Angelina Jolie and Changeling) obviously later than everyone else.

Public Enemies will go underrated. But I'll be getting this movie to own for the rest of my life. It is grand, stylish and intelligent.

If you thought it was good and not great. I'm hoping you take another look and think higher of it.

Because it should be embraced in what comes out in the cinema every week

Underrated Coen Gold
10 May 2010
What is great about this film is that it doesn't play in one tone.

It can be funny when there is humour and when there is murder it's shocking. Just like the world we live in.

This film isn't set in the movie world, it's set in our own one where we can laugh and jump back in horror all in the course of a day They did this in Fargo, and despite the fact that Intolerable Cruelty and The Ladykillers aren't as good as the rest...yes including The Hudsucker Proxy. They are never bad at what they do.

The film is set up to a coming and going of nothing. Some will get confused by this and it won't mean anything to them, probably people who need a plot more might have that kind of issue.

As my mother pointed out all the characters are self-serving, like with many Coen brother films. To quote empire magazines point of view on the film While greed is not good, especially combined with stupid people. It sure is funny The truth is I'll be enjoying this film till the day I die, and I will never be able to take a spy film seriously again. Seeing people get angry swear at each other and cause a cluster f@ck happening is something the coens invite us to laugh at, yet there are still lessons to learn again something the Coens have always done well Burn after Reading doesn't have warmth so some will find it hard to swallow and dismiss it, others will embrace this fresh piece of work and look at the world a little differently with the individualistic society and become that little bit wiser The Coens do this and they make me laugh my ass off at the same time every time I return to this film

A Tim Burton Masterpiece
23 April 2010
Once again my favourite filmmaker of all time shows me his skills and I am thoroughly impressed Most don't like, I absolutely love it I find this film to be a fantastic companion piece to the Disney cartoon. I can't wait to watch it with the original back to back. I believe I'm gonna have a blast I believe the dialogue suits the situation and I thought all the performances were fantastic. I always hope Tim Burton would do Alice in Wonderland and then he did, and as I was looking forward to it I started to worry that the original wouldn't mean as much to me To my surprise, because it was different it was completely unpredicatable and I love it. Heck I love everything that Tim Burton has done.

I look forward to buying the DVD and adoring it forever

Saw it Six times at the Cinema
23 April 2010
Once at Imax, once in 2D and the other four in 3D The truth is i'll never let the haters bring me down, it's such a wonderful film Especially the first time I saw it, it was absolutely astounding (nothing can really put it into words) Cameron has come back and shown us his skills. He shouted, huffed, puffed, praised and thumbed up to his cast and crew and he has delivered a wonderful film I think it's the film event to date seeing the film in 3D Surprisingly in 2D it is still visually astounding and I imagine the sequel will become the highest grossing film of all time like this one has. Because we all know how good Cameron is at sequels For those who don't like it, it really is your loss. I don't care if you don't like it. I really don't, cry me a river.

There really is nothing wrong with Avatar, not at all

Unashamed Pokemon fan right here
22 April 2010
I for one, and seeing on the internet I am pleased that there are others that are still unashamed pokemon fans out there It really has been so long since I saw the film. I saw the first and loved it and loved this one first, if this one had come out first then the fan base would've remained stronger and not cut the fans in half.

Half leaving and half staying. New Pokemon were brought in this film, they came in the first one as well and then after this there were so many it got ridiculous.

But as someone hoping to be a filmmaker one day, I plan to make a pokemon film for the devoted unashamed fans just to stand up for us, and put us all to rest.

I love the animation in this film, I love Lugias song. I thought it was funny and moving. I better grab this and the first on DVD before the disappear in obscurity

What film is for everyone?
19 April 2010
There really is something about this film. I can't help but watch it constantly

I've only seen the directors cut (something I can only rent and am unable to fins to buy) and I know it contains absolute horrific images

Yet the film is so damn good I'm drawn into it, all the time

And every time I watch it, I shake rattle and roll in my seat. I grab my hair, I put my hands over my eyes and pull them back. I turn down the sound and then back up again.

I even do this in a simple scene when Ellen Burstyn cries in front of her son and also has that proud look on her face that she'll be on television. While filming this scene, the camera man lost control of himself so you can see the camera move. Certainly a strong testament to her performance

The score is absolutely brilliant and draws me in. When I see these characters destroy themselves I go nuts, but I love this hateful trip.

This film is as good as feel-bad movies get. Is there such a thing as a great feel-bad film. Well what else is Requiem for a dream?

Crowd-Pleasing?....No....Polarising, oh yeah

And I take pride in embracing this kind of cinema, Aronofsky is a tremendous talent. One of my favorite directors

He shot this film in a way I usually wouldn't like for a film, but it works. It really does

At the same time, I'm the kinda person that loves seeing tragedy so well crafted on screen. I love tragedy. I feel more invited to watch films again if it ends on a dark note...or say brutally honest note

I don't think Aronofsky agrees with all his characters actions. He's showing us the consequences of screwing yourself. Yet we don't sneer at these characters. We don't wanna see this madness happen, but it's a fact that it does...well I've never heard of this kinda thing happen to an old lady but it could happen.

When people say, it's not a film for everyone. They are right. But think of a film like 'How to lose a guy in 10 days' it is not for everyone does not get called that, yet that's the way it is

So is 'everyone' people who don't want films left to their own interpretation or a film that doesn't end on happy notes or deal with traumatic truths.....think about that people

Who do they mean by everyone? I consider people who go through this kinda thing in life part of the human race, and though people should be mature enough not to go there, I hope the good ones can escape the madness

Let me tell you a story.............
17 April 2010
When I first saw the trailer to this film and little clips from it. I was dead excited. Never before had I hyped up seeing a film so long before it's release.

I was just a kid. I loved Edward Scissorhands and I saw that when my mother brought it home never seeing anything of it before and adored it(I still do) I saw the trailer to the nightmare before Xmas and it scared the hell out of me, and has since become a classic in my heart This film was the film of my childhood, it was everything I wanted in a movie and it was if it was made entirely for me (i'm sure other people went through that) For most people that was Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star wars: A New Hope/Empire Strikes back. Or some film that a lot of people hold as one of the greatest classics of all time I was never and never will be a Star Wars person. I'm a Small Soldiers person (the only probably?) I have seen this film more times than any other film in my life. I don't know how many but come the day I die I'm sure at least one hundred....not joking In that way it may be my favorite film of all time.

It made such an impression on me I wanted to start committing crimes like Alan Abernathy because that might lead me to meet such cool friends as the gorgonites. Something I didn't have a lot of down on the lifestyle block here in New Zealand (a place I'm very grateful to live and love) I imagined a sequel, I played with my own toys pretending they could do the same. I wrote stories about the small soldiers and got as many of the action figures as I could. I attempted making a movie with a friend with my toy 'beast wars' coming to life.

Whenever I feel like watching it, I always watch it the next day or soon after. It never gets old, it really never will It'll get called weird by people, a reviewer from my beloved empire magazine called it 'Gremlins with toys, but not as dark or funny' It remains a film that I love yet does not have the same enthusiasm shared by people all around the world like.....oh there's about one hundred of 'em Last Year I saw it on the shelf of the DVD store and bought it, telling myself if you don't get it now you might not find it again in your life It's the kind of movie people my age saw as kids and kinda remember whenever I bring it up to them, it doesn't have the classic status I wish it did, but maybe in a way that gives it a security.

A lot of people who do know it, including a different writer in empire called it one of the most underrated kids movies of all time, better than nothing I suppose The truth is I have seen more artistic, meaningful, profound, original films in my life, the best being the one I returned as a member on the IMDb to spread my love with just by what my Username is (not hard to notice) But I'll never forget this film, I'll always get all teary-eyed when the boat sails off at the end, and so in a way yeah that's right people It is my favorite film of all time and if you watch and enjoy know you're doing a Kiwi proud

A Rich Demented Exceptional Film
6 April 2010
How much do I like this movie? Well I walked out of the cinema thinking Marty should ditch the gangsters and do more of these...not kidding

For someone who for so damn long favoured the always perfect movie Goodfellas as my favourite Scorsese film. This one has taken it's spot

Frankly it's more my kind of story. And the cast here is an absolute Chocolate box of a treat. The performances are peerless

Martys bravura reigns supreme and he makes us sit up again and be reminded of why he's Americas best director, the greatest living director and maybe (quite possibly) just the best of them all

To me Martys gift as a filmmaker is being uncompromising in his vision, but cuts his camera quickly. He doesn't sit in the Wide-angle Martys mind moves fast and his films are f@cking alive

Some have said the film is predictable...I didn't. I fell off my chair at the end, I walked out shell-shocked

Some also wish that the film just remained an art-house open ended movie that was more like a Mullholland Drive movie

Pish Posh, this film isn't a straight anything. I have no problem with the film whatsoever, repeat none, no problem

I saw the film again, knowing the twist and it was a completely knew experience, I was watching Ben Kingsley and Mark Ruffalo the way they were acting and it was fascinating

This is also Leos finest hour, and that is saying a hell of a lot. He cries and screams and it's absolutely authentic

If you don't want a grim ride, stay away from this one It's got rats and dead kids, my parents and I walked out of Crazy heart, they said the film was too dark. I said they should skip this one then

The film isn't for everyone, but the masses get five movies every week So tell hell with 'em!!!!!!!!!!

Bittersweet Brilliance
3 April 2010
Is this film for everybody? No. Which film is? So Bittersweet is this film, I'm simply being treated here I saw the early stills of the film, it gave me a nostalgic punch to my heart. This film is about kids but not for the little ones It's a film lovers film. Not people trying to waste time on a Friday night, or people who want a plot and resolution. Or god forbid everything being so f@cking happy.

I am so grateful that this book got this grand of an adaptation. Not another CGI kiddie movie with topical one-liners.

The Wild things don't have a myspace page-- and thank the f@ck Christ for that.

The voice over acting is tremendous and the film has plenty of feelings in it, not just sadness, not just upbeatness.

A guy I knew (and not anymore) said it was depressing, and he looked at a snuff website because he claims he was curious---weirdo, it's his loss. I'll be holding onto this film forever, it allows enormous discussion about human nature, even though I said it's about kids When I say that it's really about human nature, we're all kids. There are dynamics in us that don't leave. Like controlling things, and how one emotion can dominate us I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. I really really did.

If I see a more thrilling film in my life. I'll run down the street naked
2 April 2010
Pro-war? Propaganda? No way I walked out of this film completely dizzy, I love this film. I love it, adore it.

I watched it afraid to pick up my drink because I'd get a fright and drop it. Is there anything wrong with this film....no Never have I seen a film more thrilling in my life, we are being treated here. The dialogue is so damn good for action this spectacular, the acting Exceptional. Just Exceptional. Jeremy Renners character is so enigmatic and fascinating.

It's crashed my top 20, kicking off films I have so much damn respect for. Because this movie is just above and beyond of what a film can be, it feels ALIVE.

These characters feel alive, added by the fact it has a shock powerful ending...a perfect ending Iraq is a long way from where I live, and this film through me into this hugely different reality. I walked out of the cinema almost tripping up over my own legs, grateful I wasn't there.

Kathryn Bigelow has made one of the best films, I've ever seen. So astounding is her directing, it I see a more thrilling film in my life....and I doubt I will....I'll run down the street naked painted green

Star Trek (2009)

My Favourite Film in Space
30 March 2010
Not Kidding. It is just so refreshing to see a film with this scale of action have dialog this excellent. We hear none of them saying

'I gotta get me one of those' or 'My Bad'

They're all so smart on the enterprise, smarter than anyone in the audience and so enormous faith is given (well at least by me)

The acting was perfect, casting perfect, direction FANTASTIC. That shaky camera brought a reality to it, and the characters are never sacrificed.

The story also has, to me, a sort of art-house quality interjected in it, with the red matter changing the way things are, and the film beginning in a wonderful demanding fascinating way.

I own the DVD and whenever I hear the theme music playing I get absolutely thrilled, something I'm still feeling after all these times watching the film. I think it's safe to say J.J Abrams is a tremendous talent who has made me a Trekkie to boot, I'm sure I'm not alone.

I wanna know more about the Star Trek universe, but only with these actors playing the characters.....BRING ON THE SEQUEL!

A Serious Man (2009)

A Constantly Rewarding Coen Masterpiece
30 March 2010
Warning: Spoilers
First off this is a love or hate it movie. Want Optimism? Action? Dick-Jokes? Plot? Happy Ending? All the answers given? Don't Waste your time For me and some others (and certainly not enough as I'd like) This film is Brilliant. A Masterpiece. The Coen Brothers Best. It's about the meaning of life, it's about the big things 'What it's all about' and the little things that fill it up like Marijuana and teeth.

It has offered me new rewards on repeated viewings. I saw it three times at the cinema and liked it more each time. So multi-layered is this film, it takes me a long time before I can watch something else.

Every scene contains the duality. The money problems. The dynamic between Larry and his son along with Larry and his wife, is balanced with the two neighbors.

The film can be viewed from a religious perspective and an atheist one as to why things are the way they are. Oh, how like the world we live in. I think the Coen Brothers aren't just testing Larry they're testing the audience. If you can't accept the mystery (we never find out if Larry or his son will die) then you might find yourself unable to escape your problems. If it depresses you and you can't just laugh it off, change.

Michael Stuhlbarg (who is OUTSTADNING) plays a modern Job, or just another human being (remember my perspective comment?) He remains admirably optimistic and warm but we shake our heads at him, for not doing anything.

Sy Ableman the man who takes Larries wife, might be the devil. Larry does not stand up to him so the devil takes over. And god might be the one who strikes Sy down for sinning, or it just happened without any religious meaning because religions a lie....talk about perspective. Sy is in Dynamic with the Dybbuk at the beginning way back when in Poland and the curse does/does not get put upon a simple couple and may have gone on all the Jews, Sy Ablemans dead body wasn't watched over when he dies so Larries dreams are haunted. My older brother said a Jewish mans curse is his wife. The wife stabs the Dybbuk and Larries wife pushes him to the rabbis that give the carefully watching audience perspective and Larry none. Larry can't see the joy in the parking lot. Larry wants the answer to what happened to the Goy. Larry can't see that Marshak wants him to figure it himself.....I'm always asking myself if another film has ever made me think this way...no it hasn't.

And the ending once again. The phone call Larry gets about his health right after making the choice on the grade, the same action happens before his wife decides to divorce him. And his son Danny begins with trying to deal with the money problem, the radio is taken, the journey starts, it ends with him trying to deal with it but realizes it does not matter, he'll probably die. And if he keeps living or dies no answer will be given, so the answer to Larry and his sons fate has no purpose. No answer will be their, so we need to laugh and enjoy the journey instead of focusing on the end.

This film finally has crashed my top 20 movies taking it's place at Number One (Seriously). It ends where it begins and I could talk about it all day, of all the intertwining layers that this film has and we should be grateful exists, like all good things. That includes the parking lot.
