The entire “The Fast and Furious” universe consists of 13 installments: 10 movies, one show and two short films. The world of fast cars, illegal street racing and iconic beefs was created by Gary Scott Thompson. The writer, director and producer kicked off the franchise with the first film “The Fast and the Furious,” which was directed by Rob Cohen, with a story by Thompson and Ken Li.
The first film in what would become a country-hopping international franchise, starred Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Matt Schulze and Ricky Yune and more. “The Fast and the Furious” told the story of Dominic Toretto (Diesel), who has a passion and drive for street racing, and after a run-in with Johnny Tran (Yune), he takes racing newcomer Brian (Walker) under his wing. However, Dom and his sister Mia (Brewster) have no idea that he’s an undercover cop, and they are...

The evolution of the "Fast & Furious" film series hasn't been so much an act of growth as it has been a mutation. Rob Cohen's 2001 original, "The Fast and the Furious," was little more than a low-expectation, mid-budget summer action flick that was expected to come and go in the public consciousness quite quickly. It was also very clearly cribbing its plot directly from Kathryn Bigelow's decade-old film "Point Break." Cohen merely transposed the 1991 film's setting from the world of criminal surfers to the world of criminal street racers. Vin Diesel is Patrick Swayze and Paul Walker is Keanu Reeves.
But the film ended up a major hit, grossing over $200 million worldwide, and inspiring a sequel with the amusing title of John Singleton's 2003 chapter "2 Fast 2 Furious." Because Diesel didn't return, Walker's character was teamed up with a rival played by Tyrese Gibson. Perhaps unwittingly, an ensemble began to grow.

This article contains Fast and Furious franchise spoilers
It’s sort of amazing just how far The Fast and the Furious franchise has come—that it is even a franchise at all—when you consider where we started. The 2001 film could very easily have been a cheesy CW-esque drama fueled by biceps and bravado. But amid the roaring engines and nitrous-boosted action, there was the kernel of something special. The relationship between Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) elevated the film above base melodrama, and even though many of the subsequent films struggled to recapture the magic, the fifth attempt finally realized the series’ great potential.
Fast Five remains the purest distillation of the series and its overall greatest installment. The drama is believable, the cast is large but not unwieldy, and the action scenes are some of the best Hollywood has yet to produce. Fast Five...

When “The Fast and the Furious” came out in 2001, it was meant to be a high-octane summer popcorn flick.
To the surprise of almost everyone, the Universal movie went on be a huge hit, grossing $207.3 million worldwide. But even then, no one predicted that it would explode into the multi-billion dollar franchise that it is today — and became Universal’s biggest franchise of all time.
The original action film, starring the late Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster, celebrates its 15th anniversary on Wednesday, July 22.
TheWrap has gathered 15 fast facts about the original “Fast” film to celebrate its birthday.
1. Paul Walker had a crush on Jordana Brewster

Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for the upcoming action-comedy, ‘Action Point’. The film centers around Johnny Knoxville‘s D.C., who owns a low-rent amusement park. After D.C.’s ammunsment park is threatened to go out of business by the opening of a spiffy new rival park, D.C. and his teenage daughter pull out all the stops to keep their park alive. There’s plenty of great moments in the trailer, but it really feels like a potentially great funny combination of ‘Jackass‘ and ‘Bad Grandpa‘.
The film will be directed by Tim Kirkby and produced by Knoxville, Bill Gerber and Derek Freda. It is based on a story by Knoxville, Freda, John Altschuler, Dave Kinsky and Mike Judge, with a screenplay by Altschuler and Kinsky. In addition to Knoxville, ‘Action Point‘ will star Chris Pontius, Dan Bakkedahl, Matt Schulze, Eleanor Worthington-Cox, Johnny Pemberton, Brigette Lundy-Paine,...

Johnny Knoxville get s few of his Jackass pals back together again for a new comedy called Action Point. The film tells the story of a man who runs an extremely dangerous theme park to try and compete with a real theme park that opens nearby. This is an actual movie that tells a story, but... the stunts in the film are real and performed by the Jackass crew. What else would you expect from the guys of Jackass!?

"What this place needs is an excitement enema!" Paramount has unleashed the first official trailer for Action Point, the latest wild 'n crazy movie starring Johnny Knoxville and the Jackass boys, inspired by their crazy antics in past movies. This movie is actually a feature comedy (with a screenplay and plot and all) and it's about a crazy guy who designs and operates his own low-rent theme park with his friends, "where the rides are designed with minimum safety for maximum fun." The main plot involves a rival multi-million theme park being built nearby, so Knoxville and his friends have to figure out a way to save Action Point before it loses all of its customers. The full cast includes Chris Pontius, Dan Bakkedahl, Matt Schulze, Eleanor Worthington-Cox, Johnny Pemberton, Brigette Lundy-Paine, Joshua Hoover, Conner McVicker, and Eric Manaka. Yeah this actually looks very fun, might be worth a watch after all.

How can we not talk about family When family's all that we got?—Wiz Khalifa (feat. Charlie Puth), See You AgainWhat a long, strange ride it's been… and still some way to go. As I write, the eighth film in the Fast/Furious series (Ff) is still playing in thousands of cinemas worldwide. I won't concern myself here with the box-office performance of The Fate of the Furious—nor will I attempt synopsis of this or the previous installments—except to note that enough money was taken on opening-day alone to confirm we can expect the ninth and tenth in this prodigiously lucrative Universal franchise to hit our screens late spring or early summer, in 2019 and 2021.Ideally the 10th—and, presuming Vin Diesel's September 2015 comment about "one last trilogy" is honored, final—picture should arrive exactly 20 years after Rob Cohen’s The Fast and the Furious bowed on 22nd June,...

With the imminent release of The Fate of the Furious, the cast and crew are busy talking about the new movie as well as past installments of the increasingly popular series. Here are the latest news bites. What happened to Leon? Leon (Johnny Strong, above, in the rear) was one of five members of the original core team. Only two of them appear in the newest movie: Dom (Vin Diesel) and Letty (Michelle Rodriguez). Jesse (Chad Lindberg) was killed in the first movie, while Vince (Matt Schulze) died during Fast Five. But the fate of Leon remains up in the air. In The Fast and the Furious, Leon was last seen driving away with Dom, Letty and Mia (Jordana Brewster). What happened to him after that? Strong has his theory, as shared with EW: "I think it’s...

Walker died at the age of 40 on November 30, 2013, in a car crash in the town of Santa Clarita, located in the northern outskirts of Los Angeles County. Walker’s friend and business partner, 38-year-old former Porsche racing-car driver Roger Rodas, who was at the wheel, was also killed in the accident. Check out the Paul Walker Tribute below. Now, of course, the Paul Walker Tribute also happens to be a The Fast and the Furious tribute, as no other Paul Walker movie is shown in the two-minute clip. Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg, the filmmakers behind the much maligned film spoofs like "Date Movie," "Disaster Movie" and "Epic Movie," are at it again.
After taking on "300" in "Meet the Spartans" and the "Twilight" franchise in "Vampires Suck," they're now turning their attention towards the "Fast and Furious" franchise with "Superfast".
Actor Alex Ashbaugh ("The Canyons") and stunt performer Dale Pavinski are in final negotiations to star as the Paul Walker and Vin Diesel characters respectively.
Lili Mirojnick ("Cloverfield") and Andrea Navedo ("How to Make it in America") have scored the Jordana Brewster and Michele Rodriguez roles, while Daniel Booko will play the Vince-style role Matt Schulze played in the first and fifth 'Furious'.
Peter Safran will produce and filming begins in October in Los Angeles.
Seltzer and Friedberg's most recent spoof, "The Hunger Games" take-off "The Starving Games," hits in November.

Vin Diesel has been teasing a role in an upcoming Marvel movie for a long time now. Just today, he all-but-confirmed to EW the rumors that he was voicing a character in one of the superhero-studio’s movies — probably Guardians of the Galaxy, probably Groot. This may be surprising, but it’s actually simply the next phase in an ongoing evolutionary process that dates back to the dawn of the new century. You see, way back in 2000 2001, Vin Diesel headlined The Fast and the Furious, a movie about fast cars and the furious people who drive fastly. Diesel left; in respone,...

Truth be told, up until very recently, not only had I not seen a single The Fast and the Furious movie, I wasn’t really in any great rush to do so either. I’d heard from various sources that the first outing was an over the top piece of guilty fun, but after that they all kind of tailed off. That all changed however when Fast Five came out in 2011 to extremely warm critical reviews.
Bringing some familiar faces from the rest of the series back into the fold and adding the man-mountain that is Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson was a clear statement of intent that this instalment was not doing anything by halves. It's strange to think that it's well over a decade since the Fast franchise began. But like a juggernaut rolling down a hill, this ageing series shows no sign of slowing down; in fact, this year's Fast & Furious 6 will be joined by yet another sequel, Fast Seven, due out in cinemas next year.
But given that the Fast movies now have such a long history, with various stars fading in and out of them as the past decade has rolled on, perhaps it's a good time to look back at how the series has evolved, and work out how its events will lead up to Fast & Furious 6...

Hollywood loves a franchise and this year we've seen studios stretching sagas - and doubling the box office - by separating films into two parts, as happened with the conclusions of Twilight and Harry Potter and as will also be the case with The Hobbit.
Although a fairly unlikely contender for big-screen longevity - because of its seemingly simple road-racing concept and lack of a cherished literary source - The Fast And The Furious series is now extending itself even further.
We knew a sixth film was scheduled to arrive on May 27, 2013, and Vin Diesel says the story has become so big that they have decided to split it into a sixth and seventh instalment.

In the true spirit of the franchise, star Vin Diesel has confirmed that a seventh "Fast & Furious" is already in the works—even though shooting the sixth hasn't started yet. (According to the action hero, the story is just "too massive" to be corralled into a single movie.)
Diesel explains that the scripts are being written simultaneously (which is a pretty tall order if you ask us, but we digress). No word yet on whether they will shoot the installments back-to-back or if the cast and crew will get a little break in between. But, let's be honest, this franchise isn't really about taking things slow.
Why the rush? It's really a matter of housekeeping. "With the success of the last one, and the inclusion of so many characters, and the broadening of scope, when we were sitting down to figure out what would fit into the real estate of number six,...

Vin Diesel, star of the decade-long Fast & Furious franchise, has confirmed that in addition to the recently confirmed sixth movie, there will also be a Fast & Furious 7.

Chicago – “Fast Five,” recently released on Blu-ray and DVD, is one of the most interesting pop culture phenomena of 2011. All of us who complain that sequels are never good and that films usually get worse as a franchise gets older had to admit that this was the exception to the rule. Not only the most critically-acclaimed film in the “Fast and the Furious” franchise, it also became the highest-grossing in the series, making an Amazing $620 million worldwide and currently ranking fifth on the year in domestic gross. This was a monster hit in every way and I’m pretty sure fans of it will want to include it in their Blu-ray collection in that action movies are often the most-rented and most-purchased on the home market. People love to watch their favorite action flicks over and over again and “Fast Five” is many buyer’s favorite of 2011 to date.

Fast Five Blu-Ray Combo Pack Universal Home Entertainment 2011/130 & 132 mins/Rated & Unrated List Price: $34.99 – Available October 4, 2011 A lot can change in a decade. Is the Fast and the Furious series really that old? I remember on April 28, 2001, exactly ten years ago, I got the chance to see the first installment in what has become a money making franchise. This was actually the original date the film was to be released, but Universal Pictures felt they had a summer hit on their hands and pushed it back to Friday June 22. Yet I got the chance to see the pic two months early through one of those market research groups. I'll admit it, I found the film rather underwhelming. After seeing trailers for the feature through much of the Winter, I thought Rob Cohen had made a nice little crime thriller. Twenty minutes into the film, the thing took a 180 for me when...

Although it strays from the original franchise formula, Fast Five is a great thrill ride from start to finish filled with high-octane stunts and plenty of action. The film.s plot may be totally unbelievable, but who cares. This movie is simply fun to watch. Directed by Justin Lin (who handled directing chores on Fast & Furious and The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift) from a screenplay by Chris Morgan (who wrote the two previous films in the franchise), the movie.s strength comes in the assembling of actors from the previous chapters including Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Matt Schulze, Gal Gadot, Don Omar, Tego Calderon, and Sung Kang. They are joined by...

There can’t be many film series’ that by the fifth instalment actually start to show signs of improvement but this is most definitely the case with Fast & Furious 5 (or Fast Five or Fast & Furious: Rio Heist whatever you want to call it!). The Fast And The Furious franchise has always been little more than a guilty pleasure, it’s dumb, brainless entertainment; fun at the time but instantly forgettable. With this latest chapter in the series available on Triple Play Blu-ray and DVD on Monday 5th September, director Justin Lin has managed to pull off something quite extraordinary, a sequel that actually betters all that have come before.
Kicking off where the previous episode ended former cop Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) and Mia Toretto (Jordana Brewster) break ex-con Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) out of custody before fleeing the United States to Rio de Janeiro. Once in Brazil they...

Fast Five does not arrive on Blu-ray and DVD until October 4th, but there will be plenty of high octane action between now and then. Tyrese Gibson and Jordana Brewster will be on hand at the Chicagoland Speedway on September 16 to jumpstart the action of the Nascar Camping World Truck Series race. Fast Five was my personal favorite installment in the franchise, and I am excited for what is to come in Fast Six. Keep reading for all the details about the event and to check out the Blu-ray trailer and some bonus clips from the disc!

Here at Destroy The Brain we cover mainly horror but we love exploitation films. One of the subgenres of exploitation is carsploitation. Films like Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry and Vanishing Point have become popular through the mention of Tarantino’s tour-de-force car stunt extravaganza Death Proof as part of 2007′s Grindhouse. Fast Five director Justin Lin has begun the path of working substance into the pornographic exploitation of tricked out cars of the past Fast & Furious entries. I really enjoyed Fast Five and if you can get past the previous entries, I think you will to as the newest entry is a heist film and I think has the spirit of old carsploitation cinema running through its engine. Below, we have all the jam packed features that are included on the home media release.

Fast money for a racing movie. Fast Five premiered in the Number One spot at the box office this weekend with $83.6 Million. I do not think anyone was expecting such a large take from Fast Five. It seems Universal Studios was right to prep The Fast and the Furious 6. Rio was Second with $14.4 Million for $103.6 Million so far. Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Big Happy Family was Third with $10 Million. Water for Elephants was Fourth with $9.1 Million. Prom premiered in Fifth with $5 Million. Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil (which premiered this weekend), Soul Surfer, Insidious, Hop, and Source Code rounded out the top ten respectively.

'Fast Five' movie showed lots of fast car action, violence & more. Universal Pictures released their new action flick "Fast Five" into theaters this weekend. I just watched it,and I was definitely not disappointed. This movie brought some serious,non-stop, action throughout its entire duration. It stars: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Matt Schulze, Tego Calderon, Don Omar, Elsa Pataky, Joaquim de Almeida, and Dwayne Johnson. The film kicked off with characters Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker) and Mia Toretto (Jordana Brewster) busting Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) out of a moving prison bus,and it was a wild scene from the "get go." After that, you just knew it was going to get even better, and indeed, it did.

Dominic "Dom" Toretto (Vin Diesel) is in prison; but not for long.
Old partner Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker) and sister Mia Toretto (Jordana Brewster) have a plan to break him out using some high powered vehicles and a rather sensationalist bus crash, and their plan works smoothly enough to send the trio off to hide underground in Rio.
However, hiding takes money - and all three of the outlaws aren't ones to stay still for long. They take up a what sounds like a simple job to steal some fast-paced cars. This particular plan, as simple as it sounds (at least for this team), goes awry when some of their new partners are shown to be working against their best interests. The team ends up stealing...

Chicago – Maybe director Justin Lin learned how to have fun directing the now-classic paintball episode of “Community.” Wherever he figured out that his movies need not be so damn self-serious or wordy, he took that knowledge to the set of “Fast Five,” a movie that this critic who hated “Fast & Furious” absolutely dreaded when it was first announced. Now I can’t wait for the inevitable sixth movie in the most unexpected mega-franchise of the new millennium.
Rating: 4.0/5.0
“Fast Five” is ludicrous, impossible, ridiculous, and stupid…and I mean that as a compliment. When the film kicks it into gear and the cars, bullets, and bodies are flying fast, it is an incredibly effective action film. The calendar may say that Summer is a few months away, but the escapist entertainment that the season is known for starts today with the release of this rocking thrill ride, one of the...

Director: Justin Lin Writer: Chris Morgan Starring: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Matt Schulze, Sung Kang, Dwayne Johnson I feel it’s only fair to get something out of the way up front…I’ve never seen a single one of the first four installments in The Fast and the Furious franchise. And while I’m in confessional mode, let me add that I’m not a big fan of action films. I have a theory on action films and it’s this: they’re a lot like drugs. At the beginning they’re a real thrill ride (or you simply Od). Just a small hit and you’re on your way. But the more you use, the smaller the thrill and the more you need. And Fast Five is an all-out full-blown action film, no small doses for the novice here. So if the sounds of punches landing,...

Fast Five
Directed by: Justin Lin
Cast: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris
Running Time: 2 hr 10 mins
Rating: PG-13
Release Date: April 29, 2011
Plot: Dom (Diesel) and Brian (Walker) get put on the top of the Feds most wanted list after a prison break and dead DEA agents. They two bring a gang of drivers together to pull one last job in Rio De Janeiro.
Who’S It For? Diesel and Johnson should be enough to pack it in for action fans. For a movie I thought would mainly be about flashy cars, I don’t think gear heads will totally geek out.
Expectations: Adding Johnson to the mix is a huge bonus. I’d be thrilled if this turned out to be the fastest and the most furious.
Scorecard (0-10)

Paul Walker and Vin Diesel in Fast Five
Photo: Universal Pictures Maybe I over-hyped Fast Five in my own mind. Maybe I expected too much from the adrenaline fueled fifth installment in the increasingly ridiculous franchise. Or perhaps this film just wasn't clicking on all cylinders. Whatever the reason, while serving as a decent piece of mindless entertainment, Fast Five is overstuffed, too long and just seems to be trying too hard in all the wrong places. Had I not been as entertained by the previous installments I'm not sure I would be as willing to give number five a pass.
Bringing back virtually everyone the franchise has ever offered -- aside from poor Lucas Black whose character is just a twinkle in the Tokyo Drift -- Fast Five banks hard on character recognition and less on actually trying to continue an audience's relationship with these characters. It's a "getting the band back together" movie,...

Where do you even begin? Let's go with the title: Fast Five. This is the fifth film in a franchise that started in 2001 with The Fast and the Furious, and the first sequel's cutesy 2 Fast 2 Furious has nothing on the way the series' makers seem to have given up coming up with anything original. "Fast Five" is what you would call the film casually, tossing it around with fellow viewers, though it feels more like shorthand that cropped up in the production offices and somehow stuck. It's choppy and ugly, and it betrays a total lack of effort on the part of the filmmakers to win over anyone who isn't in the series' crowd of enthusiasts and hangers-on. It's a nickname made official. This is the problem that runs throughout Fast Five: its utter lack of ideas. The bulk of the film is set in Rio de Janeiro, and...
