” Some say that’s the legend. Not so. You see, I knew him once, when he was just a dog at a men side. And even all this land is his, every summer, when he comes down to the valley, he remembers kind hands and old masters… before he went to his own… became his own master… before he heard the call. “

Move over Chewbacca. Harrison Ford has a new furry companion in his latest movie “The Call of the Wild.”
Ford stars opposite a CGI dog named Buck, specifically a St. Bernard and Scotch Collie mix, in 20th Century Fox’s new film based on the classic novel by Jack London. And their journey through the Alaskan Yukon has Ford breathless.
“Adventure of a lifetime,” Ford tells his canine sidekick as they stare out into the wilderness. “You’ve been sleeping for two days. In my bed,” he adds.

“The Call of the Wild” opted for CGI, photo-realistic animal characters in order to provide them with the full range of emotion that London characterizes in his novel. But the film is a live-action and animation hybrid with impressive vistas and visual effects all the same.

Harrison Ford is currently looking for his next role, and that could come in Chris Sanders’ Call Of The Wild as Ford enters talks.
Ford would play John Thornton, a prospector braving the Yukon on the hunt for gold. The film is adapted from the 1903 Jack London novel about the Klondike gold rush of the 1890s.
The central character of the novel is a dog named Buck. The story opens at a ranch in Santa Clara Valley, California when Buck is stolen from his home and sold into service as a sleigh dog in Alaska. He becomes progressively feral in the harsh environment, where he is forced to fight to survive and dominate other dogs. By the end, he sheds the veneer of civilization and relies on primordial instinct and learning experience to emerge as a leader in the wild.

“War for the Planet of the Apes” from Weta Digital could well be on its way to the elusive VFX Oscar after winning four Ves trophies Tuesday night at the Beverly Hilton (including the top feature prize). Christopher Nolan’s “Dunkirk” won for supporting VFX, Pixar’s “Coco” earned four awards (including VFX for animation), and “Game of Thrones” took home five awards (including VFX for TV).
The “Apes” finale, directed by Matt Reeves, benefited from a Shakespearean performance from Andy Serkis as Caesar, with Weta working its wizardry in much harsher conditions for the performance-captured animation. Not surprisingly, “Apes” additionally won for Caesar, the effects simulations for the thrilling avalanche, and compositing. However, although both “Rise” and “Dawn” captured Ves prizes, neither won the Oscar, so “War” is not a certainty in its race with “Blade Runner 2049.”

We gleaned all kinds of stuff from our time on the Vancouver set of War For The Planet Of The Apes. Here's what we know right now...
Last October, Den Of Geek packed a bag full of scarves, gloves and woolly hats and ventured off to Vancouver. There, in a chilly woodland far outside the city, director Matt Reeves was in the throes of shooting the third chapter in 20th Century Fox's Apes saga, War For The Planet Of The Apes. A sequel to 2014's bleak, spectacular Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, it continues the saga of Caesar, the leader of the burgeoning civilisation of intelligent apes, and the seemingly unstoppable war sparked in the previous movie.

The great maverick directors of the 70s and 80s went to some very strange places in their quest for realism. Werner Herzog coaxed a legion groaning extras to drag a full-size, very heavy steamboat up the side of a Central American mountain in Fitzcarraldo. William Friedkin’s underappreciated masterpiece The Sorcerer sent Roy Scheider off in a truck over a long and very rickety-looking bridge. Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now famously took in heart attacks, purloined corpses and fits of megalomania in the deeper, darker parts of the Philippines (standing in for Vietnam).

Star Wars, Lord Of The Rings, Andy Serkis and Apes: who should take the credit when it comes to a motion capture performance?
Who’s responsible for motion capture performances? Well. the answer’s Andy Serkis, right?
Seriously though, if anyone is synonymous with this relatively young effects method, it’s him. Gollum, Kong, Caesar, and most recently Snoke in Star Wars: The Force Awakens wouldn’t be the same without his input, on sets and in the suits.
But during press for Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, Serkis made some comments about the progress made in creating Caesar: “[Weta Digital] have now schooled their animators to honor the performances that are given by the actors on set. And the teams of people who understand that way of working now are established. And that's something that has really changed. It's a given that they absolutely copy [the performance] to the letter,...

When Terminator 2: Judgment Day came out in 1990, there was much talk in the media about its digital effects, and what they meant for the future of filmmaking. Since then, cinema’s passed a number of significant milestones, each surpassing what came before it. Jurassic Park represented a leap forward in the quality of computer-generated creatures and their integration with a live-action sequence. The Matrix showcased a new generation of fluid camera moves and effects that could make a movie look like a comic book drawn to life. The Phantom Menace, The Lord Of The Rings and Avatar broke new ground in performance capture and 3D.
Together with actor Andy Serkis, New Zealand-based studio Weta Digital has done more to further the art of performance capture than just about anybody else.

20th Century Fox has released a new featurette for Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes that’s very unnerving. Beginning with Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, the video connects the two movies and shows what happened to mankind after the 2011 film finished. It ain’t good folks.

Plus, via the film’s Facebook page, a new photo of “Caesar’s loving partner” Cornelia, along with their baby, was unveiled.
The pair in the original Apes franchise were Zira and Cornelius. Their chimpanzee baby born in the third film, Escape From The Planet Of The Apes (1971), is hidden by Armando (Ricardo Montalbán) and grows up to become Caesar in the fourth film, Conquest Of Planet Of The Apes (1972).
The screenwriters from Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, hid easter egg names throughout the film.

Get excited. Get Very excited. Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes is hitting theaters in a little over a month on July 11th.
20th Century Fox has released a brand new TV spot for director Matt Reeves’ film.
A decade has passed since apes and man have come face-to-face. Now the two societies face a difficult choice between working together to co-exist or battle to become the dominant species.
A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.
The film’s screenplay is by Mark Bomback and Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver, and based on characters created by Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver.

20th Century Fox’s Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes is quickly approaching – the film opens in cinemas three months from today on July 11.
USA Today has the latest photos from director Matt Reeves’ upcoming film.
Caesar (Andy Serkis) has grown from his days as leader of a primate rebellion in 2011′s Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes. “We see him as a statesman and a leader and someone who has galvanized all of these apes,” says Serkis. “We see the beginning of their world.” Reeves is impressed by Caesar’s care-worn face. “You can see a real haunted quality.”

Sunday evening saw Apes on horseback in the first TV spot for Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes.
Today, 20th Century Fox released the 5th poster showing a softer side of Caesar (possibly comforting baby Cornelius?) for the upcoming sequel to Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes.

Deadline Hollywood and Variety are reporting that director Matt Reeves has been chosen to direct Planet Of The Apes 3.
Reeves, who helmed the upcoming “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” will return to direct the third installment as well, the studio confirmed.
The third Apes is currently untitled and Chernin Entertainment will return as producers. The writers are unknown at this point.
Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa were the scribes who resurrected the franchise with Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, the Rupert Wyatt-directed film that grossed $482 million worldwide in 2011.
The original 1968 classic, starring Charlton Heston and Roddy McDowall, was groundbreaking for its prosthetic makeup techniques by artist John Chambers, thus launching a film franchise, including four sequels, as well as a short-lived television show and animated series.
In the meantime, Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes is set to hit theaters this summer on July...

Here’s your first look at Caesar from Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes. I can unequivocally say that it is my most anticipated film of next year. Footage from the sequel was shown for the first time in Hall H on Saturday during Comic-Con.
Andy Serkis, celebrated for his performance in the last film, reprises his role as Caesar. During the panel discussion, the actor said, “We wanted to make a Caesar-centric story. He’s a leader, he’s a father – he has a teenage son. We see Caesar learning to communicate with words & gestures – it’s a rich & fertile ground for exploring apes & humanity.”
Director Matt Reeves said, “As a kid I wanted to be an ape, and watching Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes made it real.”

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes was scheduled for release on May 23, 2014 and that date was one of the reasons why Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt didn’t come back for the sequel. Now it’s been announced that Fox has swapped Apes‘ release date with another big summer 2014 movie.
X-Men: Days of Future Past is now moving to the May 23rd spot, while Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will move to X-Men‘s July 18th release date. Currently, the only other movie set to open on that weekend is Planes: Fire and Rescue.
Filming of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes started last month in New Orleans and here’s information on the new cast for those that missed our previous coverage:

While filming on the Rise of the Planet of the Apes sequel has been going on for quite some time now, 20th Century Fox has revealed a start of production press release that gives us our first official synopsis for the plot of the film, and reveals some of the other actors cast.
The synopsis pretty much lines up with what we've heard so far. This film takes place sometime after the first and sees Caesar and his apes struggling against a band of human survivors:
