Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of interviewing her, witnessing her reflections on this incredible journey. “Surprise!” Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise might not have been expecting their visitors, but we have been waiting to see just what the live-action Star Trek: Strange New Worlds crossover with the animated Lower Decks will look like since it was announced in July 2022. And even just the bit we get in the new Season 2 trailer does not disappoint. Lower Decks‘ Tawny Newsome and Jack Quaid are bringing Beckett Mariner and Brad Boimler over for the special episode (which will also feature animation and was directed by The Next Generation and Picard‘s Jonathan Frakes), and seeing them in live-action is a bit trippy — but we love it! We also love Boimler’s reaction to Spock’s (Ethan Peck) Vulcan salute and “long live and prosper” at the end of the trailer. Michael Gibson/Paramount+ “That costume has so many layers,...

Despite Michelle Yeoh‘s growing awards season buzz for her turn in Everything Everywhere All at Once, she’s not shutting the door on TV as plans for a Star Trek: Discovery spinoff are still moving forward at Paramount+. The previously reported spinoff would center around Starfleet’s top-secret division, Section 31, which was introduced in the Deep Space Nine TV series. According to TV Line, progress is moving forward despite minimal updates on the project in the four years since its announcement. As Trekkies may recall, Yeoh’s Philippa Georgiou was recruited to join the division during a deleted scene from Star Trek: Discovery‘s Season 1 finale episode. Originally, this series was meant to land on CBS All Access, but in the years that followed, the streamer has since become Paramount+. So what's going to get a Best Picture and who will get a Best Director nomination? The possible combinations of 10 and 5 contenders, respectively, are many. It finally happened on Tuesday. After years of false starts, CBS and Viacom finally announced their intentions to get back together.
The all-stock deal, which values Viacom at $12 billion, puts Bob Bakish as the head of the newly-named ViacomCBS, with Joe Ianniello staying on board as the CEO of all CBS-branded assets. The agreement puts the CBS broadcast network, Viacom’s stable of cable channels like MTV and Nickelodeon, and the Paramount film and TV studio under one roof.
Below, TheWrap sizes up the winners and losers from Tuesday’s long-awaited announcement.
Winner: Shari Redstone
Bob Bakish may have gotten the keys to the kingdom but make no mistake: Shari Redstone comes out the biggest winner of Tuesday’s announcement. She completed her three-years-long quest to reunite CBS and Viacom, which had been separated since 2006. She is chairman of the board and got to install her hand-picked guy as chief executive.

Burning books is rarely good, and it’s usually one of the go-to indications—both in fiction and in real life—that a society has lost its way. That being said, the people burning books aren’t usually Michael B. Jordan and Michael Shannon, both of whom are awesome and will soon be starring HBO Films’ adaptation of Fahrenheit 451. HBO has released a preview image of Shannon looking on as Jordan aims a flamethrower at something (probably books), and while anyone with a passing familiarity with Ray Bradbury’s original book can tell you that what they’re doing is abhorrent, Jordan and Shannon do make it look pretty cool.

Today was a busy day for some of the smaller guilds with the Visual Effects Society, the Cinema Audio Society, and the Makeup and Hairstylists Guilds all announcing their nominations for 2013.
First, we have the Ves, whose main category to look at is “Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects-Driven Feature Motion Picture,” where we find Gravity and four other nominees that are just going to have to be happy with the fact that they got nominated. This is perhaps the easiest category to call in the entirety of awards season, and I don’t mean just here, but for the Oscar as well (Last year’s winner, Life of Pi, easily took this category before going on to claim the Oscar). It’s true that films like The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and Star Trek Into Darkness had outstanding effects as well, but nothing even came close to the amazing,...

I’m not kidding when I say I had no idea what I was in for when I sat down to view The Best Man Holiday. First, I didn’t know it was a sequel. And second, I’d never even heard of the first one – The Best Man (1999). But, you know what? Shame on me! Make no mistake; I’ll be curled up watching The Best Man Holiday’s predecessor on OnDemand come this weekend.
When you go see The Best Man Holiday, I recommend you bring tissues. Two boxes would be best. Bring a fan, too. Because, lady friends, it gets hot. There’s a lot of manly chest in this flick. (But, don’t worry, guys – there’s enough lingerie and football to go around.)

Ep David Eick and Luke Pasqualino Share How Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome Was Brought to Life
Ever since it debuted in 2003, science fiction fans have been clamoring for more about the dark, murky work of Battlestar Galactica, which resulted in the prequel series Caprica and the latest addition to the saga, Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome. Blood & Chrome revisits the life of William Adama just as he is leaving the academy and engaging in the seemingly never-ending Cylon battle. In a recent press conference call executive producer David Eick and star Luke Pasqualino talked about the genesis of Blood & Chrome, the challenges in bringing it to the digital screen and where the Adama journey goes in this third series in the Galactica universe.
Where did the idea for doing another prequel come from?
David: I was asked by the network to think about a concept that would be under the umbrella or the rubric of the Battlestar Galactica cannon that would make sense as an online series.

Machine Gun Preacher
Opens: 2011
Cast: Gerard Butler, Michelle Monaghan, Michael Shannon, Madeline Carroll, Kathy Baker
Director: Marc Forster
Summary: After finding God, drug-dealing biker Sam Childers renounces his outlaw ways and embarks on a spiritual path, becoming a crusader for hundreds of desperate and helpless children who were being forced to become soldiers in war-torn southern Sudan.
Analysis: Despite taking the freshly rejuvenated James Bond franchise and nearly destroying it with the very disappointing "Quantum of Solace", German-Swiss filmmaker Marc Forster still has a decent amount of good will left thanks to strong earlier efforts like "Monster's Ball," "Finding Neverland," "Stranger Than Fiction" and "The Kite Runner".
Now, in his first film since that Bond outing, Forster returns to serious drama with this true story tale of a biker who became a humanitarian crusader for children in the Sudan. The story itself is fascinating, the born again Sam Childers and...

As I said in the previous Anti-Eloquents post, I get an email for each and every comment posted on my articles, and because I am both masochistic and obscenely grateful, I read every single one of the thousands that come into my inbox. There needs to be a special list though of the most magnificently insane comments of the year. I'm not talking about the brilliant and eloquent madness on display by many regular commenters, but the kind of madness that really might be served by a long institutionalization. I'm talking about the guy who writes 500 words about why CSI is better than NCIS in a four month dead comment thread. Or the guy who insists that he built a flying saucer and wants to know if we are interested.
And that's not even getting into the Top Shot trade news post which a bunch of non-Pajibans somehow decided was...

Before there was Will and Jack on Will & Grace or David and Keith on Six Feet Under or pretty much everyone on Queer as Folk, there was Buddy on Kids in the Hall. And before Neil Patrick Harris or T.R. Knight or Lance Bass came out, there was actor/comedian Scott Thompson who not only played Buddy on Kids in the Hall, but also played gay assistant Brian on The Larry Sanders Show, and who was out personally and professionally long before it was easy to do so.
Scott Thompson
But then Thompson has never done much that was easy. He came out in the 80s during the height of the AIDS epidemic. He did stand-up comedy in an era where homophobia wasn’t just rampant, it was expected and particularly vicious. Then there is the matter of his latest project, Kids in the Hall: Death Comes to Town, a...

Latest: The family of R+B singer Sean Levert is calling on the Fbi to launch an investigation into the star's death, because they are not convinced by reports of his "out of control" behaviour shortly before his passing.
The 39-year-old son of The O'Jays star Eddie Levert collapsed in his cell at Cuyahoga County Jail on Sunday night and was taken to Lutheran Hospital, where he was pronounced dead less than an hour later.
He had been serving a 22-month prison sentence for failing to pay $89,025 (GBP44,513) in child support to the mother of his kids.
On Tuesday, prison warden Kevin McDonough revealed how Levert had to be physically restrained by guards, because he had been pounding on his cell door.
McDonough claims Levert "willingly" co-operated with staff, but after being strapped to a restraining chair, his breathing slowed and he was rushed to hospital for treatment.
But Levert's cousin Michael Gibson claims the outburst described by McDonough was out of character for his relative, and the family has called in the authorities to look into the case.
Scott Wilson, a spokesman for the Fbi, has confirmed agents are to meet with the Levert family to discuss the case further.
The Cuyahoga County Coroner is currently waiting on results from toxicology tests after an initial autopsy proved inconclusive.
