The film will not be an anthology - like the '80s feature - but will instead be a single story with various elements from "The Twilight Zone" series.

There’s another dimension of sound, sight and mind.
Director Joseph Kosinski (“Tron: Legacy,” “Oblivion”) looks to unlock that door into another dimension.
According to The Wrap, Kosinski is in talks to helm “The Twilight Zone” for Warner Brothers and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way.
“The Twilight Zone” is based off the popular television anthology series created by Rod Serling. In 1983, there was “Twilight Zone: The Movie,” which was produced by Steven Spielberg and starred Dan Aykroyd, Albert Brooks and John Lithgow.
Director Matt Reeves was assigned to the new movie in 2011, but left to direct “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.”
The screenwriters for the new screenplay will be Jason Rothenberg, Anthony Peckham and Joby Harold.
Currently, Kosinski is also working on the next Tron sequel and “Black Hole” remake for Disney.

After a trip to the grid in Tron Legacy and to the distant future in Oblivion, Joseph Kosinski is now getting ready to enter a dimension of sound, sight and mind - one of shadow and substance, of things and ideas. Joseph Kosinski is entering The Twilight Zone. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the sci-fi filmmaker is now in on-going discussions with Warner Bros. to direct the new, long-in-development Twilight Zone movie. This is the first news we've heard about the project getting a director since Matt Reeves signed on all the way back in October of 2011 (he eventually moved on to make the upcoming Dawn of the Planet of the Apes). While the project has seen a number of screenwriters attached over the years - including Rand Ravich (The Astronaut's Wife), Jason Rothenberg, Anthony Peckham (Sherlock Holmes), and Joby Harold (Awake) - the script is getting yet another makeover...

A couple of sci-fi project updates, so put on your astronaut helmet and get ready... A few years back, we shared the news that a fledgling writer, Jason Rothenberg, seemed like he might be about to blow up, having been commissioned to pen a Will Smith-starring remake of 1970s sci-fi film “Colossus: The Forbin Project,” along with Leonardo DiCaprio’s “The Twilight Zone” reboot. But it seems both are moving on without the writer. "Invictus" scribe Tony Peckham was hired for 'Twilight' at the end of 2011, and now veteran writer Ed Solomon has been brought in to rewrite 'Colossus,' reteaming him with his “Men In Black” leading man. Smith would star as Dr. Charles Forbin, the creator of a computer that is taking over the world, and the only man who can stop it. This may give 'Colossus' the momentum it needs to get going after nearly six years in development,...

"Men in Black" scribe Ed Solomon has been hired to pen a rewrite of "Colossus" at Universal Pictures. Will Smith is attached to star.
The story is a remake of the 1970's "Colossus: The Forbin Project", based on a book by D.F. Jones, and is something of a precursor to "The Terminator."
The story deals with a supercomputer being built for the government as a means of protection. The computer becomes sentient and decides that the most effective way it can act as protector is to assume complete control.
Blake Masters and Jason Rothenberg penned the earlier drafts which would use the previous film along with elements of the two subsequent "Colossus" novels.

Universal Pictures is moving forward with it's big-budget sci-fi film, called "Colossus," that has Will Smith on board to play the main role. The studio has now hired "Men in Black" writer Ed Solomon to re-write the script. Blake Masters (2 Guns) and Jason Rothenberg wrote earlier drafts of the super-secret screenplay. And while Universal is keeping plot details under wraps, it's being reported that Smith will play the role of Dr. Charles Forbin, who is the creator of a computer that has taken over the world and is the only scientist who can stop it. "Colossus" is a remake of the studio's 1970s film "Colossus: The Forbin Project" and has been in the works since 2007.

Universal Pictures' Colussus starring Will Smith has brought in Men in Black writer Ed Solomon to do a rewrite, based on the 1970 film Colossus: The Forbin Project, reports The Hollywood Reporter. Blake Masters and Jason Rothenberg penned an earlier version of the script which, althought most details are being kept under wraps, follows Smith as Dr. Charles Forbin, a creator of a computer that has taken over the world and he's the only one who can stop it. Ron Howard and Brian Grazer of Imagine Entertainment produce with David J. Collins and Eric Huggins while Anikah McLaren and Sara Scott are overseeing for Universal.

Though he dabbles in other genres, Will Smith’s heart often seems to belong to sci-fi. And who can blame him when some of his biggest early hits, including Men In Black and Independence Day were firmly full of high concepts? He’s been trying to get a remake of 1970’s Colossus: The Forbin Project going for a few years now alongside Imagine Entertainment and Universal is now bringing in Ed Solomon to rewrite the script. The screenplay, which has already seen work from Blake Masters and Jason Rothenberg amongst others, will adapt the original film, which saw Eric Braeden as Dr. Charles Forbin, who builds an artificially intelligent supercomputer, only to discover that it has a sinister agenda of its own. The Hollywood Reporter today brings word that Ed Solomon, responsible for the first Men in Black film, has been hired by Universal Pictures to rewrite Colossus , an upcoming remake of 1970's Colossus: The Forbin Project , which has Will Smith attached to headline. Based on a book by D.F. Jones, the original film was a forerunner of movies like Terminator , introducing the idea of a government-built computer that becomes sentient and then takes control. Original plans for the screenplay by Blake Masters and Jason Rothenberg were to use the original's premise as a springboard and will incorporate two subsequent "Colossus" novels written by Jones to hatch a much broader film premise. Pilot season continued in full force on Friday (Jan. 25), with several new dramas and comedies ordered by the networks. Among them are two pilots from J.J. Fox got the first of the J.J. Abrams pilots: an untitled project that is a buddy cop show set in the near future when Lapd officers are paired with human-like androids. J.H. Wyman ("Fringe") wrote and executive produced the pilot. Abrams and Bryan Burke will executive produce.
The second Abrams pilot, "Believe," has been ordered by NBC and was written/produced by Alfonso Cuaron ("Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban") and Mark Friedman, with Abrams and Burke again executive producing. As Doctor Gash mentioned this morning, it's pilot season for the TV networks, and we have four more projects to report on, all of which bring with them some tasty sci-fi flavor.
First up, NBC has greenlit "Believe," a Jj Abrams project with Oscar-nominated filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón (Children of Men). "Believe" was written by Cuarón and Mark Friedman ("The Forgotten"). It is about the unlikely relationship between a girl in possession of a great gift/powers — which will come into their own in seven years — and the man who is sprung from prison to protect her from those trying to hunt her down. Cuarón, Friedman, Abrams, and Bryan Burk are executive producing for Warner Bros. TV and Abrams’ Bad Robot. Cuarón is attached to direct.

Get ready to enter The Twilight Zone. Again. And possibly again, if the new movie in development happens. But that’s not the news today. Today’s news is that CBS TV has nabbed Bryan Singer (X-men, Usual Suspects, Superman Returns, X-men: Days Of Future Past) to develop, executive produce, and mayhaps direct a reboot of the Rod Serling fan favorite.
It’s still in the early stages, with CBS TV looking for a writer to bring it to the small screen and then the shopping it to a network process begins, which theoretically should begin and end at CBS, since they’re the one’s producing it and have the rights to the original show. That’s all there is for now, but expect further developments; you can bet we’ll be keeping an eye out for them.

Gene Roddenberry deserves a lot of credit for social victories that Star Trek achieved in the 1960’s, but The Twilight Zone (1959-1964) is the template for what was later created by Roddenberry. Why this series remains one of best drama shows of that turbulent era is what Rod Serling achieved, something no network thought he could do in a series, something that was very much commercial but had a social commentary woven into it. Sure, most went over the heads of the audience and sponsors then, it wasn’t until the show was in syndication, thus repeated again and again, did many see the true genius of The Twilight Zone. And while, like Star Trek, there was to be other science fiction shows with moral codes sewn in, Serling’s original show remains the first. And after fifty-three years, Twilight Zone remains popular as ever, with the Syfy Channel airing...

The Twilight Zone is about to make a very big come back! X-Men director Bryan Singer has officially signed on to develop, executive produce and possibly direct a reboot of Rod Serling’s classic series! Everything is in the very early stages of development, but CBS TV Studios is out looking for a writer for the project.
Matt Reeves was attached to a film project for a while at Warner Bros., but ended up leaving to direct Dawn of the Planet of the Apes instead. The script for the film was written by Jason Rothenberg. There's no new information on what's going on with that film project, but I'm excited for a new series. I think Singer is a great choice to bring The Twilight Zone back as a series.
The Twilight Zone is one of my favorite TV series of all time. It influenced almost everything we see in genre movies today.

While he helped re-launch Doctor Who in 2005, Christopher Eccleston’s career since then has been somewhat predictable, in the sense that the aloof actor chooses his roles that seem based more on what he wants to do, versus the money and popularity it brings. This is good for him, in a lot a ways, as a lot American actors seem to take roles that are more in quantity than of quality. While the British actor remains indifferent about why he chooses to distance himself from Doctor Who (was Russell T Davies “gaying” up the sci fi institution too much for his liking as some have suggested) as its global reach continues to grow, he has now earned his first huge role in Hollywood, that as the villainous Malekith The Accursed in Thor: The Dark World. Let Me In director Matt Reeves is currently developing a big screen adaptation of The Twilight Zone for Warner Bros. Apparently they still don't have the script they want, so they've hired Jobey Jarrold to rewrite the script which has already been worked on by Jason Rothenberg and Anthony Peckham.
Jarrold previously wrote and directed the movie Awake and has been working on a couple of other big studio projects, such as Doug Liman's All You Need Is Kill, and Brian De Palma's The Key Man.
Jarrold doesn't have an easy job with The Twilight Zone, he needs to take several of the Twilight Zone stories created by the great Rod Serling, and turn them into one single coherent narrative. This movie isn't going to be an anthology movie like the first one, so this movie could go anywhere and might end up with a ton of Twilight Zone...

Joby Harold, the screenwriter behind the upcoming Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt film All You Need Is Kill, is in talks to take a stab at rewriting The Twilight Zone for Warner Bros. and Appian Way. According to Variety, Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) is the director for the project, which was written originally by Jason Rothenberg and rewritten first by Anthony Peckham (Sherlock Holmes). Harold will be the third man to have his hands on the potential tentpole film. The movie, of course, would be based on Rod Serling’s classic sci-fi TV series and now Harold holds the hopes and dreams of many a fan who desperately want this not to suck.
Harold is clearly an unknown at this point, until we see All You Need Is Kill, but it’s never a terrific sign if a script needs to be rewritten several times by different writers, although it can go both ways.

Warner Bros. and Appian Way are close to hiring a new writer for The Twilight Zone movie. According to Variety, the studio is in negotiations with Joby Harold to rewrite a script that was initially written by Jason Rothenberg and then rewritten by Anthony Peckham.
Matt Reeves is set to direct the picture. Unlike the 1983 movie, which had four separate storylines, this new movie will have one story that incorporates various elements from the Rod Serling classic TV series.
Harold recently wrote All You Need Is Kill, an upcoming film that will star Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. Harold also wrote The Key Man, a thriller to be directed by Brian De Palma, and wrote and directed Awake, the 2007 thriller starring Hayden Christensen and Jessica Alba.

According to Variety, Matt Reeves‘s Twilight Zone has captured another writer who is no doubt currently wondering why he’s back in Abraham Lincoln’s time and unable to convince anyone of the assassination. Jason Rothenberg wrote the original draft, which was tackled by Anthony Peckham (Sherlock Holmes), and now Joby Harold (All You Need is Kill, Awake) will take an ink-filled stab at it. The most fascinating thing about the Warner Bros. project is the idea that Rod Serling‘s show will essentially be stretched into a feature film. Previous movies based on the iconic television show were serials, and the show itself got paper thin when it tried to fill an hour-long time slot, so two full hours of being in the Zone could be a bigger challenge than most expect. After all, how much clever brow-beating can we handle? The answer to that question lies in watching every episode. Tread...

Joby Harold is the latest name to tackle the screenplay to The Twilight Zone . Variety reports that the All You Need is Kill screenwriter will perform a rewrite on the television adaptation, previously scripted by Jason Rothenberg and then rewritten by Anthony Peckham. Unlike the previous anthology feature that was released in 1983, the new film will incorporate multiple story elements from classic episodes of the 60's series into a single narrative. Warner Bros. Pictures and Appian Way are developing the film with Matt Reeves ( Cloverfield , Let Me In ) attached to direct. Appian Way partners Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson Killoran will produce with Michael Ireland, while Matt Cherniss will executive produce.

It's been about eight months since Warner Bros announced that it has hired Matt Reeves (Let Me In, Cloverfield) to direct "The Twilight Zone" movie from a script by Jason Rothenberg. Now comes word that the project is still a priority for the studio, which is in negotiations with Joby Harold to re-write the script that will have one story but take elements from several "Twilight Zone" episodes. The plan is to make a big sci-fi action movie. Harold previously wrote and directed the 2007 medical thriller "Awake," starring Hayden Christensen and Jessica Alba. He also wrote "All You Need is Kill" that's directed by Doug Liman and stars Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt.

It was reported last year that Matt Reeves (Let Me In, Cloverfield) had signed on to direct The Twilight Zone, a new film version that will streamline several episodes into a single narrative, from a script by Jason Rothenberg. That script was then revised by Anthony Peckham (Sherlock Holmes, Invictus), but for whatever reason Warner Bros. has passed the baton on to one Joby Harold (Awake). Word is that Warner Bros. has been looking for "a sci-fi-friendly scribe to...

Cloverfield and Let Me In director Matt Reeves is getting set to roll his cameras on the new Twilight Zone movie, but before that happens there's still time for another re-write. Joby Jarrold is the latest writer entrusted with the hallowed property.According to Variety, Warners were looking for "a sci-fi friendly scribe to get the script into shooting shape." No offense to previous writers Anthony Peckham (Invictus, Sherlock Holmes) and Jason Rothenberg then: that's just the way these things work in Hollywood. Jarrold previously wrote and directed the spooky Awake, and has a few buzzy projects in the pipeline, notably Doug Liman's All You Need Is Kill, and Brian De Palma's The Key Man. Jarrold's job here is to knock several stories into a single coherent narrative, rather than taking the anthology approach traditional to the series so far. So this will be a story about a...

It's been a newsy day. We lost Tonino Guerra and Ulu Grosbard, the Hong Kong and New Directors/New Films festivals have opened, Takashi Miike has yet another film on the way and Casablanca, celebrating its 70th, is playing coast to coast. It's also been a fine day for posters, so I'm pepping up today's Briefing with a few for festivals and events happening soon or already ongoing. Kevin Tong designed the one above for the three films that Edgar Wright will be on hand to present at the opening of the Alamo Drafthouse on Slaughter Lane in Austin this weekend.

First Published in 1999, "The Red Star", written and illustrated by Christian Gossett, is set in a sci-fi/fantasy world, inspired by both Russian folklore and military history, mixing technology and sorcery.
Gossett launched his own Archangel Studios in 2002, to self-publish subsequent issues :
"...an award-winning graphic novel, 'The Red Star' is about an epic battle in a world of militarized sorcery and monolithic technology, where -- unknown to all but a few -- the ghosts of old soldiers continue to fight alongside the living..."

Last summer, we brought you the news when Warner Bros. Pictures nabbed the rights to adapt Christian Gossett‘s sci-fi/fantasy comic series The Red Star, published by Archangel Studios and Image Comics. Writer Jason Rothenberg is penning the script for the big-screen adaptation, which is being produced by Neal Moritz.
Now, Deadline reports that Josh Trank (Chronicle) has been hired to direct the project which is set in “Mythic” Soviet Russia where futuristic technology co-mingles with magical elements. The protagonist is a Red Fleet soldier who goes up against an ex-leader who rules with an iron fist.
No release date has been set for The Red Star.

Josh Trank, the director behind the recent hit “superhero” flick Chronicle is a wanted man in Hollywood – he has already been linked to both a Venom movie for Sony and a reboot of the Fantastic Four – and now Warner Bros are looking to him to helm The Red Star, which is based on the Image comic of the same name, from a script from Jason Rothenberg (The Twilight Zone),
Written by Christian Gossett, The Red Star is set in a “Mythic [Soviet] Russia”, an alternative Ussr where technology and magic co-exist. The comic made it’s debut back in 1999, with a (damn good) Playstation 2 video game released in 2007 – the comic had since switched to Archangel Studios and is also available as a digital comic on iPhone, iPod Touch and Android devices.

Chronicle director Josh Trank has already set his sights on bringing Spider-Man spinoff Venom to the big screen, but Deadline is now reporting that he's ready to tackle another comic book movie adaptation. Warner Bros. has hired Trank to bring Soviet-themed comic The Red Star to life — a project previously in development at Universal. The Twilight Zone's Jason Rothenberg will write the script, which will delve into the mythical world of a surreal Soviet Union where futuristic technology and sorcery meet. The story even features a fictional take on modern-day Afghanistan (known as Al’Istaan in the comic). Trank's found footage superhero flick Chronicle has grossed over $116 million since its February release, and although the filmmaker is circling bigger...

Yesterday I mentioned how fans were up in arms over Michael Bay saying the new adaptation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles he's producing would paint the turtles as "an alien race". Well, today he took to his message board and writes, "Fans need to take a breath, and chill. They have not read the script. Our team is working closely with one of the original creators of Ninja Turtles to help expand and give a more complex back story. Relax, we are including everything that made you become fans in the first place. We are just building a richer world." Ever since Josh Trank's debut film "Chronicle" burst onto the scene earlier this year and surprised everyone with its low budget, superpowered awesomeness, it seems like he has been rumored to be attached to every big comic book property that studios want to get off the ground. First there was "Fantastic Four" and then there was "Venom," but now it seems like Trank has finally been nailed down for one project.
Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros has signed Trank to develop an adaptation of the graphic novel "The Red Star." Jason Rothenberg, another up-and-comer who just wrote the screenplay for "The Twilight Zone," will pen the script.
Honestly, it seems like Trank made the right decision by opting for a smaller graphic novel for his first film after his sudden surge of popularity. "Chronicle" worked because it was a big story told on a small scale, but that's...

I thoroughly enjoyed "Chronicle" so I was very happy to find out that the director, Josh Trank, is developing to direct "The Red Star" for Warner Bros. according to Deadline. This one's an adaptation of a graphic novel with a healthy set of 4 volumes! The script will be written by Jason Rothenberg and the film will be produced by Neal Moritz. Since "Chronicle" surprised everyone, Trank has been in-demand including talks to reboot "Fantastic Four" for Fox and the "Spider-Man" spinoff, "Venom," for Sony.
So what is "Red Star" all about? According to its Wiki page:
The Red Star is a comic book series by Christian Gossett set in a sci-fi/fantasy world described by Gossett as "Mythic [Soviet] Russia". The "Lands of The Red Star" were inspired by both Russian folklore and military history. The series is thus heavily reminiscent of a post-World War II Soviet Russia mixing technology and sorcery.

Chronicle director Josh Trank has signed on to his next film project. He'll be developing an adaptation of the graphic novel The Red Star, which is being written by Jason Rothenberg (Twilight Zone). This is the first deal that Trank has landed since Chronicle, but he's been in talks with Fox about Fantastic Four and the Spider-Man spin-off film for Sony Pictures, Venom.
The movie is being set up at Warner Bros. and is a Soviet-themed sci-fi fantasy created by Christian Gossett. The story for the comic "is set in an alternate Ussr where futuristic technology co-mingles with magical elements.
