Who she is: Hippolyta, a.k.a. Queen Hippolyta of Themyscira
Her power: Enhanced speed and strength, like all Amazons
Her story: As shown in Wonder Woman, she is Queen of the Amazons, a race of women created by Zeus to guide humanity and protect them from Ares, the god of war. Hippolyta lives on Themyscira, an island hidden from humankind, and raises her daughter, Diana. After forbidding Diana from training to fight, she discovers her sister Antiope has been training Diana in secret, and despite scolding them, allows Diana to continue her training. After Steve Trevor crashes his plane in the water off the island, a battle with German soldiers ensues, and Hippolyta decides World War I is none of their business, and the Amazons will not get involved. However, Diana disobeys her, and Hippolyta comes upon her daughter leaving the island with Trevor. Although she is heartbroken...

A new video from the set of Warner Bros.' Wonder Woman, currently filming in Matera, Italy, reveals what everyday life is like in Themyscira. In fact, the set looks a lot like Game of Throne's fictional city of Mereen, a comparison that should please Dceu fans. Apparently, it's nothing out of the ordinary for a grocery list to also contain a broadsword or two. Regardless, the set looks massive and reveals that very little green screen will be used to create the home island of the Amazons. Wonder Woman just received a new release date and will now arrive in Us theaters on June 02, 2017. Jenkins directs the origin film from a script written by Jason Fuchs. Gal Gadot stars as the titular hero, with Connie Nielsen portraying her mother, Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons. Robin Wright co-stars as General Antiope while Lisa Loven Kongsli plays Lt. Menalippe. Chris Pine...

Connie Nielsen will serve as Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons, in Warner Bros. upcoming Wonder Woman film centering on the DC Comics superheroine. There isn't much belief that we'll actually get a scene in Patty Jenkins' movie where Gal Gadot is borne from another actress' vagina, but, with Wonder Woman's mother now cast, you'll get the idea as to the... Filming is well under way for the upcoming Wonder Woman solo film, and while we know a few cast members, there's still some blank spaces on the list we haven't heard about. Today brings casting news on Queen Hippolyta, Wonder Woman's mother. Come inside to learn more.
It's a smaller casting update, but considering how little we have at this point regarding the Wonder Woman film, beggars can't be choosers. We know that Chris Pine is playing Steve Trevor, and the film is set during World War I (at least part of it). Today brings word from THR, that Connie Nielsen (Gladiator) has been cast in the role of Queen Hippolyta.
In the comics, she's Queen of the Amazons and the mother of Wonder Woman. How big a role she'll play in the overall film is hard to say, but she'll certainly have a presence, one which could likely extend into other Dceu films.

While speculation over the cast of "Wonder Woman" has been circulating the internet for months, Warner Bros. set the record straight this weekend by announcing the official cast for the upcoming standalone film, aptly titled "Wonder Woman". According the press release, (in addition to previously confirmed lead actress Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins), Chris Pine has been officially confirmed to be playing Captain Steve Trevor. A photo of him from the set of "Wonder Woman" was released a few weeks ago via Instagram, but this is the first time Warner Bros. has officially confirmed his role as Steve Trevor. While Nicole Kidman was previously in negotiations to play an Amazonian warrior in "Wonder Woman", it would appear that Robin Wright ("House of Cards") has signed on for the role in Kidman's place. This could mean Wright will be channeling some of Claire Underwood's fierceness by playing Diana's mother,...

Michael Stuhlbarg set to join impressive ‘Doctor Strange’ cast
Who would’ve thought Marvel could create such an eclectically interesting cast as they have for the one with Doctor Strange?
The Wrap reports that Michael Stuhlbarg, who was just seen in Steve Jobs and Trumbo, is set to join the cast for Doctor Strange, which is currently filming. The movie stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Steven Strange with Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Mads Mikkelson, and Tilda Swinton rounding out the main players.
Stuhlbarg caught attention in the Coen Brothers’ A Serious Man and has since become a staple character actor, as seen this year. He is a welcome addition to a cast that includes so many big name stars that you can’t help but get a little excited for whatever director Scott Derrickson and Marvel are cooking up.

The Wrap reports that Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman ("The Hours") is in negotiations for a key role in director Patty Jenkins film adaptation of "Wonder Woman." The film stars actress Gal Gadot ("Fast & Furious 6") as the Amazonian princess and Chris Pine ("Star Trek") as her love interest, Officer Steve Trevor.
Inside sources suggest Kidman's role is a high-ranking Amazonian warrior or would most likely be the Queen of the Amazons, Hyppolyta. In the comic books, Hyppolyta is the ruler of the Amazonian island of Themyscira and just so happens to be the biological mother of Diana Prince/Wonder Woman.
Director Zack Snyder and his wife Deborah Snyder are producing the film alongside Charles Roven. Screenwriter Jason Fuchs wrote the recent draft of the story. Gal Gadots Wonder Woman will first make her live-action appearance in Zack Snyder's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" which will be released on March 25th,...

The upcoming "Wonder Woman" movie may be adding an Oscar winner to its ranks: Nicole Kidman is reportedly in talks for a high-profile role in the picture.
According to TheWrap, Kidman is in the midst of negotiations to appear in "Wonder Woman" alongside titular star Gal Gadot. The site writes that she's being eyed to play "a high-ranking Amazonian warrior," a member of the same race as Wonder Woman herself.
It's unclear at this point if the flick will follow the traditional comics storyline, but TheWrap reports that Kidman could be playing Hyppolyta, the Queen of the Amazons and Wonder Woman's biological mother. We'll have to wait for official word from Warner Bros. before we know for certain (and whether or not Kidman is indeed joining the film).

Nicole Kidman is the latest A-list star to join the DC Extended Universe.
The Oscar-winning actress is in talks to join Gal Gadot and Chris Pine in the cast of Wonder Woman, according to The Wrap.
There's scant details about her role at the moment, only that she's playing "a high-ranking Amazonian warrior".
Early speculation is already suggesting Kidman could be playing Hyppolyta, Diana Prince's biological mother and the Queen of the Amazons in Wonder Woman comic lore.
This isn't the first DC Comics-related role for Kidman - the actress starred as Chase Meridian opposite Val Kilmer in 1995's Batman Forever.
Gadot will make her debut as Wonder Woman in next year's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, with a Patty Jenkins-directed solo movie following in 2017.

It's becoming increasingly difficult to name an A-list actor who hasn't appeared in a comic book movie, and there are plenty more films coming up in the next few years that are going to make that task even tougher. Nicole Kidman already has one comic book film under her belt — she played Dr. Chase Meridian in Batman Forever — and now The Wrap reports that the Aussie Oscar winner is in "ongoing negotiations" to play "a high-ranking Amazonian warrior alongside Gal Gadot" in Wonder Woman.
Kidman's role isn't confirmed yet, but The Wrap speculates (or at least implies) that she may be playing Hippolyta, the Queen of the Amazons and Diana Prince's biological mother. I'm not sure what script looks like and what direction they're taking the film (though these details hint at the scope), but on the surface, Kidman seems like a good fit. The cast of Wonder Woman just got even more impressive, as it’s been revealed today that Academy Award winning actress Nicole Kidman is in talks to join the cast of the upcoming DC Comics adaptation as a “high-ranking Amazonian warrior.” If the deal works out, Gal Gadot and Chris Pine will have some very good company (rumour has it that Sean Bean and Eva Green are also being considered by Warner Bros.), and while her specific role has yet to be revealed, you have to believe that Kidman is being lined up for a big part.
One possibility is Queen of the Amazons, Hyppolyta. Her relationship with Wonder Woman could be very interesting to explore in a movie, though it runs the risk of coming too close to what Marvel has done with Thor and Odin.

Have Patty Jenkins and Warner Bros. found their Queen Hippolyta? According to The Wrap, none other than Nicole Kidman is in talks to join Gal Gadot and Chris Pine in the DC Comics adaptation, which is set to shoot very soon. Apparently the character she'd be playing is a "high ranking Amazonian warrior", but they don't specify whether it's Hippolyta or not, simply adding: "While Kidman’s potential role has yet to be confirmed, the Queen of the Amazons in the Wonder Woman comics is Hyppolyta, who also happens to be Diana Prince’s biological mother — though it’s unclear whether the film will remain faithful to that storyline." Gal Gadot will be introduced as Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice next year, before going on to star in her solo adventure which is set for a June 23rd, 2017 release.

William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night’s Dream

The Theater Project

The Players Theater, MacDougal Street, NYC
Christian Amato's direction of A Midsummer Night’s Dream displays that he posses a comedic theatrical maturity far beyond what one might expect for a twenty-five year old director. Mr. Amato so accurately channeled the spirit of the 70's theater of John Vaccaro, Ron Tavel, and Charles Ludlum that upon leaving the theater I expected to be transported back to that raucous and innovative era, one in which the energy of The Village reflected the hoopla we were witnessing on stage. [Need I say I quickly woke up to the disappointment that it was 2013, and The Village and the world were now radically different.] Mr. Amato in his hilarious production, has recreated anew and in a contemporary context that which made devoted audiences keep returning for more works by the creators of the “ridiculous” mode in New York theater.

After a bunch of fan speculation that's been going around for the past several months (possibly years), Adrianne Palicki has landed the coveted role of Wonder Woman, as the female superhero returns to TV.
Apparently, new NBC Programming President Bob Greenblatt is a D.C. fan. Earlier today, NBC announced that 27-year old Adrianne Palicki (Legion, TV’s Supernatural, TV’s Friday Night Lights) would portray corporate executive Diana Themyscira a.k.a. Wonder Woman in David E. Kelley’s hotly anticipated revival.
Of note, every network approached with Kelley’s script took a pass, leaving many to believe that Linda Carter would forever remain the only Wonder Woman we would ever have known. However, Greenblatt snatched up the project and everything is now full steam ahead.
Having starred on three seasons of Kelley’s other hit, Friday Night Lights, Palicki quite possibly had the role in the bag. According to sources,...
