To paraphrase Wesley Snipes circa 1992, "I only have [five] words for you: 'White Men Can't Jump' [remake]." That's right, you favorite comedic basketball hustlers, or a 2023 facsimile of them, are back in a Hulu original film that's coming your way this May. It's been over 30 years since Snipes issued his immortal declaration to Woody Harrelson about the slam-dunking abilities, or lack thereof, of white guys on the b-ball court, and now a new generation of actors and filmmakers is here to update the story for the streaming age.
We first heard about the "White Men Can't Jump" remake way back in early 2017, so it's been gestating for a while, with "black-ish" creator Kenya Barris attached to write. NBA player Blake Griffin and former NFL player Ryan Kalil are set to produce alongside Barris through their production company Mortal Media. The Argentinean artist Paulo Londra recently partnered with Warner Music Latina, ending a complicated chapter in his career that kept him from releasing new music. Now, he’s fully back with “Plan A,” his first single in two years and a song that marks an exciting era for him.
“Plan A” starts off sounding like a breakup ballad as Londra sings about wanting to get clarity in a relationship. Then, a dramatic drum beat kicks in and the chorus gets a boost from amped-up guitars, adding some intensity to the...

Rose used her power advantage to seize control. After hitting a double clothesline, Rose landed a Fisherman’s Suplex on Sakai, but Rayne broke up the pin. Rose hit a spinning sidewalk slam on Rayne for a near fall and followed with a big clothesline on Sakai for a two count. Rose then hit a Codebreaker and spear on Sakai, but Rayne once again made the save. Rayne hit a Ripcord Cutter on Rose and then the Rayne Check on Sakai for a near fall. Sakai...

If you’re a baseball fan, particularly if you’re a Dodgers, Astros, Cubs or Yankees fan, the real baseball season started this past Friday with the inauguration of the American and National League Championship Series. I’m a Dodgers fan, which means I’m among that group who, arguably, have gone the longest without the satisfaction/excitement/nail-biting terror of seeing their team in the World Series, the next step for whoever wins in the Nlcs. The Dodgers last appeared in the World Series in 1988, capping a memorable run with a championship by beating the Oakland A’s. That was 29 years ago. The Cubs are the reigning Mlb champions, having won last year’s World Series after a 107-year drought. And the Yankees, a mainstay of the World Series around the turn of this century, last appeared in an October championship series in 2009.

Okay. We’re hooked. Morgan Freeman. Tommy Lee Jones. Rene Russo. Oh, yes…there’s Ron Shelton, too. Though we haven’t seen much from director Shelton for a while, he is back, and his new action comedy already has a lot going for it. It’s scheduled to open on December 8th. Three Hollywood forces combine for success potential in Shelton’s newest romp, and we’re not only talking about the three main characters. First, there’s Shelton’s previous comedy successes. He made a name for himself with White Men Can’t Jump, Cobb, Tin Cup, and Bull Durham. He knows his stars, as Rene Russo starred

There's a moment early in the new season premiere of the FX crime drama Fargo when a parole officer recalls how he met his fiancée, a slick hustler named Nikki Swango (played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead). As the episode flashes back to Nikki at a police station, getting booked and photographed, fans of filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen might experience some deja vu. The situation, the way it's shot, and even the way the crook gets yanked around by the authorities – it's all right out of the Coens' 1987 comedy Raising Arizona.

The Wesley Snipes/Woody Harrelson basketball comedy White Men Can’t Jump is getting a remake next...
We know that nothing cheers you all up like a story of a remake of a film you like, so let us take a minute to assume the position before we pass this nugget on.
Ready?
Yep, the 1992 basketball comedy White Men Can’t Jump, starring Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson, is now in line for a big screen do-over. It’s in the hands of Kenya Barris, the creator of Black-ish, and 20th Century Fox is backing the project, as it did the original.
Ron Shelton, who was also behind classy sporting movies such as Bull Durham, Tin Cup and Cobb, wrote and directed the original film. He isn’t believed to be involved in the new version.
Instead, Kenya Barris will both produce the project and pen the new screenplay.

In the midst of March Madness and with the Kentucky Derby around the corner, the first pitch of baseball season is almost here.
A quote from Field Of Dreams best describes America’s national pastime, “The one constant throughout the years has been baseball.”
To mark the start of the 2016 season, here’s our list of the Best Baseball movies.
The Bad News Bears
Considered by some to be the best baseball movie ever, the film celebrates its 40th anniversary this month (April 7, 1976). In an article from the NY Daily News, one line reads, “It is a movie that someone like the late Philip Seymour Hoffman called his favorite, and one which resonates on many levels today, with all different generations.”
Who are we to argue with greatness?
After skewering all-American subjects such as politics (The Candidate) and beauty pageants (Smile), director Michael Ritchie naturally set his sights on the...

The first decade and a half of the 21st century has brought a lot of changes to the landscape of film. The advancement and sophistication of computers has made realistic computer generated effects a mainstay in both big-budget and small-budget films. The internet and streaming technologies have given big Hollywood new competition in films produced independently and by non-traditional means. We went from purchasing films on yards of tape to plastic disks, and now we can simply upload them to the cloud. Advertisements for films have reached a higher, more ruthless level where generating hype through trailers and teasers is crucial for a film’s commercial success. Movie attendance has fluctuated along with the economy, but that hasn...

While promoting "Dumb and Dumber To," Jim Carrey made an appearance on "The Howard Stern Show," where he spoke about how difficult it was to work with Tommy Lee Jones on "Batman Forever." "I was really looking forward to working with Tommy, but he was a little crusty," he explained. "I think he was just a little freaked out because 'Dumb and Dumber' came out on the same weekend as [his movie] 'Cobb,' and 'Cobb' was his big swing for the fences and that didn't work out and that freaked him out a bit." Carrey went on to describe the first time he met Jones. "I walked into a restaurant the night before our big scene in The Riddler's lair and [Tommy was there]," he said. "I went up to say hi and the blood drained from his face, in such a way that I realized that I had...

Jim Carrey has revealed that Tommy Lee Jones once said he "hate[d]" him.
The Dumb and Dumber To actor told Howard Stern that Jones did not want to work with him while filming 1995's Batman Forever.
Carrey played the Riddler opposite Jones's Two-Face in the Batman Returns sequel starring Val Kilmer as the Caped Crusader.
"I think what happened was, I was really looking forward to working with Tommy because he's a fantastic actor and he still is to me, I mean he's amazing, but he was a little crusty, he was a little crusty," Carrey said.
"Sometimes that Rhodes Scholarship is more of a weapon than an asset."

Jim Carrey lifts the lid on working with Tommy Lee Jones on Batman Forever...
Tommy Lee Jones has a reputation as an actor with intensity, who doesn't suffer fools - and sometimes not fools - gladly. And rumours had done the rounds around the time that Joel Schumacher was shooting Batman Forever that he and co-star Jim Carrey didn't get on particularly well for a start.
Turns out those rumours had some substance to them. Bluntly: they didn't.
Chatting on The Howard Stern Show, Carrey was asked directly whether they got along or not, and he said that "I was really looking forward to working with Tommy, but he was a little crusty. Skip to the 55 minute mark to listen Riddle me this, riddle me that, why did Jim Carrey's Batman Forever co-star Tommy Lee Jones hate the funnyman so much? Before the two actors began working on Joel Schumacher's 1995 Batman film, the two sort of competed at the box office. In December of 1994, Jim Carrey had Dumb and Dumber coming out the same weekend Tommy Lee Jones had his Ty Cobb biopic Cobb coming out. Carrey's film pulled in $16M in its opening weekend and went on to gross $247M. While Tommy Lee Jones' Cobb opened in limited release, pulling in only $63,786, and would end up grossing just north of a million. Above is audio of Jim Carrey's appearance on the Howard Stern Show, in which he discusses the matter, or you could read the transcription that fashionnstyle.com have written. Howard Stern asked: "When you wre doing 'Batman Forever,...

The release this week of Jon Favreau’s Chef provides a new addition to the popular sub-genre of Food Cinema. From Eat, Drink, Man, Woman (1994) to Julia & Julia (2009), film directors have often created meals so mouth-watering that the thought of another handful of chewy, over-toffeed popcorn makes a mockery of one’s very soul.
Here then is the ultimate HeyUGuide to the ultimate Cine-Banquet, for any budding chefs out there to prepare for like-minded friends (please consult Alexander Payne’s Sideways for your wine selection).
Amuse-bouche: ‘Rillettes du Canard’ Red Dragon (2002)
“Hannibal, confess. What is this divine looking amuse-bouche?” Dr. Lecter is perhaps wise to keep back some of the secrets of the lavish banquet he has prepared for The Baltimore Opera Society. Few of them would suspect that the missing (and talentless) flutist from their own woodwind section is not just the ghost at the feast, but the key ingredient.

Hot on the heels of some Stateside controversy and his second acting Golden Globe, Leonardo DiCaprio brings latest film The Wolf of Wall Street to the UK this Friday.
Wolf marks DiCaprio's fifth collaboration with legendary director Martin Scorsese, and together the duo have produced such modern classics as Gangs of New York, The Departed and Shutter Island. DiCaprio's incredible screen work stretches beyond his Scorsese partnership, though. He's tackled Shakespeare, faced down an iceberg aboard James Cameron's Titanic and dived deep into the human mind for Inception.
With Wolf of Wall Street on the horizon, Digital Spy staff reminisce about their favourite DiCaprio movies below...

Here are 25 more great, unsung films - this time, from the year 1994...
Yes, 1994. The year cinemas were dominated by such whimsical wonders as The Lion King, Forrest Gump, The Mask and, erm, True Lies. It was also the year Gump dominated the Academy Awards, and Four Weddings And A Funeral loomed large at the Baftas.
As ever, there was so much more to the year's cinematic landscape than Tom Hanks' park bench ramblings or Hugh Grant mithering from beneath his gorgously crafted hair. To prove it, here's a list of 25 films that, in our estimation, are among its most underappreciated. There's much horror, drama, tears and laughter, plus a couple of classic documentaries, too.
25. Phantasm III: Lord Of The Dead
The Phantasm series was quite unusual, in that writer and director Don Coscarelli made all four of them. This means that,...

Tommy Lee Jones heads into Sunday's Oscars as a nominee for Best Supporting Actor, but he already has one trophy under his belt.
Jones' first (and, to date, only) Academy Award win came in 1994 for "The Fugitive," in which he plays a U.S. marshall. He attended the Oscars with a shaved head -- a requirement for "Cobb," which he was filming at the time.
He may not have had hair, but he did have some fancy spectacles. Take a look:
Jones was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor for 1991's "JFK" and Best Actor for 2008's "In the Valley of Elah." This Sunday, he'll face off against a field stacked with gentleman who have already won Oscars: Alan Arkin ("Argo"), Christoph Waltz ("Django Unchained"), Robert De Niro ("Silver Linings Playbook") and Philip Seymour Hoffman ("The Master"). Jones is nominated for his turn as Rep. Thaddeus Stevens in Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln.

To mark the launch of its new game, Stratego Sci-Fi has surveyed more than 2,000 Britons to chart the Stratego Sci-Fi 100 – the nation’s top 100 stars of the sci-fi world – as well as a separate poll charting the best sci-fi battles from the silver screen – and has crowned Superman the greatest sci-fi character of all time
Following up the Man of Steel in 2nd place in the Stratego Sci-Fi 100 was Harrison Ford’s gruff but lovable rogue Han Solo, with Frank Oz’s jedi master Yoda coming third, both representing Star Wars in the top three and rounding it out firmly in George Lucas’ favour. “The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it’s a part of our past, Ray. It reminds us of all that once was good and it could be again.” – Field Of Dreams.
No truer words were ever spoken about America’s Pastime. Baseball began this past Spring with 30 teams vying for the chance to become World Champions and now it’s been decided. The San Francisco Giants and Detroit Tigers will play ball in the 2012 World Series. Before the final hurrah of nine innings, stats, bases and 3 strikes you’re out, Wamg has compiled a list of the Best Baseball Movies. Ron Shelton has written some of the most well-known and beloved sports films in movie history. The writer behind such classics like Bull Durham and White Men Can't Jump as well as recent films like Tin Cup and Cobb, Shelton had faded away from his bread and butter taking on the role of Hollywood script doctor over the years. After an eight year hiatus, he returned with the TV movie, Hound Dogs last year, but now it seems Shelton has returned back to the genre that made him a Hollywood name. Variety reports that Shelton has written an officially licensed NFL drama that chronicles the last three weeks of the NFL season as seen through the eyes of fictional players, coaches and their significant others. Titled Week 14, the script is currently being shopped around with hopes that...

The NFL is set to develop a feature film called Week 14 that will be produced and directed by Tony Krantz from a script written by Ron Shelton (Bull Durham, White Men Can't Jump, Cobb). Krantz has directed a few good projects that include Felicity, Sports Night, 24, and The Big Bang.
According to to Variety the movie will feature interweaving storylines in the same vein of Crash, and the story "will chronicle the last three weeks of the NFL's regular season as seen through the eyes of fictional players, coaches and their significant others." The NFL if very protective of its family-friendly brand, so you can expect this movie to be PG or PG-13.
The film package is currently being shopped around to various studios and apparently there's a lot of interest in it. Football is an extremely popular sport in the USA, and this will be the first official film made by the NFL.

Sports Night and 24 producer Tony Krantz is teaming up with the NFL to make a movie with the league's official blessing, a patina that eluded films like Any Given Sunday and those innumerable films about college football. Written by Ron Shelton — whose career canvasses baseball (Cobb, Bull Durham), basketball (White Men Can't Jump), boxing (Play It to the Bone), golf (Tin Cup), and, yes, football (The Best of Times) — the project is described by Variety as "interweaving storylines in the vein of Crash," with "PG-13 content, since the NFL is very protective of its family-friendly brand." NFL: The Movie (we made that up, but feel free to run with it, guys) will detail the final three weeks of an NFL season through the perspectives of fictional coaches, players, and significant others. Studios should be bidding on the project right around the time the NFL starts its season this September.

Here at the Film Experience we probably complain too often about Oscar's absolute obsession with the biopic genre. One reason we hate this that we don't talk about much is that the films don't tend to age well. If you don't believe me try watching all the Oscar nominees from any particular year in a single lead acting or Picture category. Guarantee that 9 times out of 10 the bio in the mix is the one most likely to cure your insomnia.
Because of annual biographical awards love it's easy to forget early in each new film year that Oscar history is littered with bios that didn't catch on. I was just thinking about this because today is the Centennial of the Ty Cobb related Detroit strike. Cobb (1994), which you can watch on YouTube, was Tommy Lee Jones' chaser to his Oscar winning turn in The Fugitive. Come to think of...

Whether they’re male or female, old or young, they’ve illuminated some classic movies. Here’s our top 50 list of sci-fi heroes and heroines…
On the face of it, compiling a list of truly great sci-fi protagonists should be easy. Pick a load of familiar names from a hat, write some breathlessly adoring drivel beneath them, and head off to the pub to reward a job well done.
Except it was never going to be as simple as that – and compiling lists seldom is. For every character making an appearance in the list below, there were at least two other possible candidates who didn't quite make the cut. Some sci-fi heroes were removed, then quickly reinstated. The order was jiggled around, then reordered again.
At one point, your humble writer realised there were more than 50 entries, and then had the unenviable task of hunting back through to decide which poor soul to eliminate.

Brad Pitt is at his best as a baseball manager who pursues a less conventional route to success
In a classic essay in his 1954 book God's Country and Mine, the French-born but American-by-choice Jacques Barzun wrote: "Whoever wants to know the heart and mind of America had better learn baseball… That baseball fitly expresses the powers of the nation's mind and body is a merit separate from the glory of being the most active, agile, varied, articulate and brainy of all group games. It is of and for our century." This is probably one of the reasons why it has inspired so many remarkable Hollywood movies, a list now joined by the cynically or realistically named Moneyball.

Moneyball was released this weekend, but is it one of the five best baseball movies ever?
Moneyball is a Brad Pitt movie based on Michael Lewis's book Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game, about the Oakland Athletics team and how its general manager Billy Beane used sabermetrics to change the team's fortunes. (Or not, but you need to watch the movie or know the story). Moneyball the movie was released in the Us this weekend and with an Aaron Sorkin script (West Wing, The Social Network, and Sports Night, possibly the best fictional TV show about sport, but that's another debate) has mostly received rave reviews. The promotional material describes it as "one of the greatest baseball movies ever made", but is it one of the best five?
Here's my suggested top five all-time baseball films, but you may disagree. And I leave it to you to...

Comic-Con International has released the full schedule for Sunday July 24th for San Diego Comic-Con 2011. This is the final day of the convention. Sunday is known as Kids day and is usually the slowest of all the days, there are a few surprises though. In all my years of going to Comic-Con I've never been to a panel in Hal H. Usually nothing is happening in Hall H on Sunday, this year there are a few TV programs going on in Hall H such a as Glee, Supernatural, Doctor Who, The Cleveland Show, Sons of Anarchy, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and this year Buffy the Musical will be in the great Hall as well. I've never been to the Buffy Musical event, and I think I finally want to go this year. A couple of other things worth noting are a one on one panel with Nathan Fillion, and Max Brooks talks about zombies.

The latest Music in the Movies column celebrates the work of Elliot Goldenthal, whose compositions have graced such films as Alien 3, Interview With The Vampire and Heat…
Like previous Music in the Movies subject, Elmer Bernstein, Elliot Goldenthal was a student of the legendary Aaron Copland. Whilst Goldenthal isn't the most prolific of film composers, his distinct sound has accompanied some great films over the years and earned him three Oscar nominations and one win. A reason why Goldenthal hasn't got the number of credits his contemporaries boast? He often alternates between film scoring and stage productions.
I haven't included his Oscar winning score for Frida in the article, as I'm not a huge fan of it and there are other titles below that fit better with the rest of the series.
So, here are what I consider to be the most notable scores of Goldenthal's career:

Ron Shelton sure likes his sports, having built a career on films like Bull Durham, White Men Can't Jump and Cobb. For his next gig, he'll be revisiting his Tin Cup leisure of choice. The director has signed on to indie comedy Q School, with Dennis Quaid and Tim Allen said to be in negotiations to headline. The story, like its title, centers on an annual Golf tournament known as Qualifying School where players duke it out for a spot on the next year's PGA tour. A small sports...
