A GREAT movie is served!
31 May 2021
The movie hits the viewers just right. The extensive focus on the daily aspects of the kitchen will capture the eyes.

This is an under-rated gem of a movie!

Anti-climatic ending
13 April 2021
A cute movie about love. Most of the viewers will relate to the story.

If you love a good climax, watch the movie or else don't watch it. Personally, i think the movie could have shown what happened after the sudden ending. It feels incomplete.

Visaaranai (2015)

Stunning portrayal of an uncomfortable reality!
2 April 2021
Visaaranai is a 2015 Tamil movie. It depicts the police custody torture of four individuals and is actually based on a novel written by one of the four individuals who were tortured by the police.

Visaaranai is a grim take on the corrupt police society and how a group of four innocent migrant laborers from Tamil Nadu were shown hell in a police station. With a run-time of nearly 2 hours, the movie will keep you seated till the last scene. It's that engaging! It's a pure visualization of the oft ignored reality of today's world and at times will leave you squirming. The acting is top-notch and all the cast do not fail to impress. From braving the custodial torture to being free to again finding themselves in an unwelcome place at the wrong time, the viewers will be sighing for the protagonist as they realize the peril he is in.

This movie was in my watch-list for quite sometime and i don't know why i watched it so late. But i am glad that i finally got to watch it. This movie is a hidden gem and more people need to watch this! After the movie ended, it reminded of the father-son duo, from Tamil Nadu, who were killed during the starting days of the lock-down in 2020.

Undone (2019–2022)
7/10
Above average
17 March 2021
Undone is a 2019 Amazon original animated TV show. It revolves around a a girl in her twenties who after suffering an accident suddenly has the power to manipulate space-time continuum.

This short TV series is a binge-worthy watch where a daughter of a deceased father tries to search for answers regarding her father's sudden death. In the way, she learns to manipulate time and space.

I watched it to kill time. And honestly, i wanted more episodes for the show. So that all the things happening in the 'Undone universe' can be explained elaborately. Other than that, a fun watch. Will definitely watch a second season; if there will be any.

Inconsistent writing leaves you with many questions in the ending
9 March 2021
The Girl on the Train is a 2021 Bollywood movie. It is based on a woman who had a personal tragedy and turns to alcohol to cope with it. Meanwhile, she is envious of a couple who, for her, is a dream-come-true. Trouble starts when she visits their house.

With a runtime of 2 hour the movie is hard to watch after the first 20 minutes. The writing is inconsistent and so is the script. There are times when nothing makes sense. The scene transition is also lack-luster. The protagonist reportedly has amnesia after her tragic accident but no light, at least sensibly, has been shed on it. Psychiatrists in the movie violate patient-doctor confidentiality. The police investigating a case also seem unmotivated.

Parineeti Chopra, Aditi Rao Hydari and Kirti Kulhari- all the three actresses were terribly wasted in this effort of a movie. It could have been better. They couldn't do justice to their role.

In conclusion, avoid this movie. I am a big fan of these 3 actresses and so watched the movie. Now i feel like i have wasted 2 hours.

Superb!

10 Cloverfield Lane is a 2016 Hollywood movie directed by Dan Trachtenberg. The movie is about a man who saves a girl who was in an accident. He lets her stay in his bunker to save her from the alien attack. But his behavior makes her uncomfortable.

With a runtime of 1 hour and 45 minutes, this movie will cling on to your attention till the very last scene. Every transition in the scenes are smooth and you won't doubt anything or will doubt as much as Michelle (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) does. The unsettling atmosphere of the bunker which lightens up a bit at times and then again gets tensed will keep you on the edge of your seat. Also, Michelle's constant planning to get out of the bunker to check the outside world for herself will keep you guessing about the alien attack.

John Goodman as the survival specialist and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as the ever-sceptical girl are a treat to watch. Also the soundtrack is apt and engaging.

Lastly, do watch it! You won't regret it.

Hereditary (2018)

It was all planned!
10 February 2021
Hereditary is a 2018 horror movie where a family of four suffers in all possible ways by the hands of a powerful entity.

An engaging movie right from the beginning, it never bores you for a moment. There's always something around the corner and viewers know it. There's just something waiting to happen. The film starts with a funeral but the funeral was the beginning of the end for this family. Everything went downhill after that. The mother's work life, her relationship with her husband and son; the son's academic life; the father also got slowly distant from his family unable to bring everyone to the table.

Toni Collette was phenomenal in her acting. The other actors also did their best as a family writhing yet adjusting with whatever's strange happening around them. The background score doesn't fail to impress.

This movie is a feast for all the horror fans out there. Pay attention to all details.

Split (IX) (2016)
9/10
Pure thriller
25 January 2021
Split is a 2016 thriller movie directed by M. Night Shyamalan with James McAvoy as the main character. The movie is about a person (James McAvoy) suffering from multiple personality disorder who has 23 personalities. But is it really 23 personalities?

This engrossing horror thriller keeps you glued to your seats throughout the 2 hours of its runtime. Within a few minutes of its beginning the movie gets serious and remains so till the last second. Right from the kidnapping, to the holding hostage part, to the psychiatric sessions part. Even the flashbacks of Casey's (Anya Taylor-Joy) past is dark.

James McAvoy has essayed his role with such finesse that his personality changes becomes easy notice and is distinguishable from the other personalities. There are times when the camera zooms in on his face and his facial expressions and sudden changes are captured effectively by the viewers. Anya playing the role of Casey also gave an outstanding performance.

This movie has been rated far below what it deserves. One should watch it and be the judge of my previous statement.

Mahanati (2018)

Worth your time!
23 January 2021
Mahanati is a 2018 biographical movie of yesteryear actress Savitri. With a runtime of around 3 hours, the biography aptly depicts the life of Savitri, her rise to stardom and her unfortunate downfall. Keerthy Suresh, playing the lead role, has done justice to the life of Savitri garu.

The movie showcases the curious Savitri as a child who in her teens set foot in the film industry. From then on her life had several ups and downs which has been portrayed perfectly in the movie. Samantha Ruth Prabhu as a journalist trying to find answers about 'the Mahanati' has done a wonderful job.

The movie has bagged many awards and nominations- Keerthy Suresh as best actress for her role. It surely is a worthy watch and one gets to be a part of the history of Savitri garu.

Season 2 left us hanging
24 December 2020
I have already watched Season 1 and reviewed it. This review is about Season 2.

Season 2 ended with closing all the loops that were there except a cliffhanger in the last scene. This season is more gripping than the previous one.

This is a brilliant show with some brilliant acting by all the actors. Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Saif Ali Khan have put on a stellar show. Other than that each character got their own arc and have fulfilled their part.

A must watch!

Anti-climatic ending!
10 November 2020
No Country for Old Men is a 2007 Hollywood movie that depicts the cat and mouse chase of a hunter who became the hunted and a psychopathic killer. But all isn't what it seems.

The movie is an interesting watch and keeps you thinking and wondering every moment. An intense movie with some seriously intense acting.

Javier Bardem is a sight to behold in the movie. His dialogue-delivery would surely give one goosebumps. Josh Brolin's also gave a awesome performance.

In conclusion, i couldn't understand the ambiguous ending of the movie and had to look up for its explanation in YouTube. One has to pay attention to every detail in the movie and of course, expect the unexpected. The ending isn't your ordinary ending. It will leave one high and dry.

Psycho Raman (2016)

A memorable movie
7 November 2020
Raman Raghav 2.0 is a 2016 Bollywood movie directed by Anurag Kashyap and starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui. It is loosely based on the serial killer Raman Raghav who was active in Mumbai in 1960s.

The movie is a gripping thriller and will not leave you bored in any of its parts. A brilliant take on the life of a serial killer and how he is almost caught by the cops and always manages to escape. The killings, the emotions involved and the nuances...all have been beautifully depicted in the movie. It's indeed a underrated gem of a movie.

The stellar performance put on by Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Vicky Kaushal will get one so invested in the movie that for once one will forget that it's a movie. Sobhita Dhulipala also doesn't fail to impress. Perfect casting.

Finally, this movie is a must watch if you like edge-of-the-seat thrillers. You won't be disappointed.

Okay movie

Darna Mana Hai is a 2003 Bollywood horror movie. It is about a group friends who went on a trip and in between their car broke down at night. To pass the time till sunrise, they narrated each other horror stories. This is the premise of the whole movie.

It's a one-time watch movie. The acting was not impressive. The concept of the film is the only thing that stood out. The climax was not justified.

You can give it a miss if you want. Personally, i found Darna Zaroori Hai more engaging.

Will Smith has put on a stellar performance for this movie. Jaden Smith also didn't fail to impress.

In conclusion, one should watch this movie. It showcases the struggles of life in a beautiful manner.

Do you believe in god?
20 October 2020
Season 1: Sacred Games is a Indian TV show centering around a gangster, religious riots and an incorruptible policeman.

This is one-of-a-kind and the probably the first of its kind. Never has a TV show to the likes of Sacred Games produced in India.

This gritty and dark show is successfully carried by its talented cast. Nawazuddin Siddiqui has proved himself yet again. Any praise for him would be an understatement. It was a pleasure to see Saif Ali Khan in a different role.

All in all, it's a must watch!

A masterpiece!
16 October 2020
Django Unchained is a 2012 Hollywood movie depicting the story of a former slave turned freeman who just wants to get his wife back. He will stop at nothing to unite with his wife.

A brilliant masterpiece of a movie. The gut-wrenching way in which slavery in past-America is depicted is simply awe-inspiring. Quentin Tarantino goes all out to show the viewers what slavery was like in those days.

Every character in the movie were aptly cast and put on a splendid show. Every scene with Jamie Foxx and Christoph Waltz is memorable and impressionable.

All in all, this is a Tarantino movie. So, you gotta watch it. A revenge story so good that it will stir up your insides!

Bigil (2019)
5/10
Below average
14 October 2020
Bigil/(Whistle) is a movie which showcases the life of a gangster whose football dream was dashed when his father died. He lived his dream through the women's football team, he coached.

With a run-time of 3 hours, the movie was a soggy watch. The plot of the film was never clear in the first place. It oscillated from a gangster movie to a sports movie to a gangster movie to a women empowerment movie, and finally to a sports movie. It's hard to say what the movie wanted to convey. There were too many contradictions in the plot. Many sub-plots were explored but only till the surface.

The whole movie was carried forward by Vijay who was playing the role of a gangster-cum-coach. Other actors didn't impress.

Avoid the movie.

My My My!
11 October 2020
It's one of a kind superhero show. Shows the darker side of the superheroes we admire. The Boys is an off-beat TV show where a group of extraordinarily ordinary individuals try to best the superheroes.

Anything more i say...will be a spoiler.

The Season 1 was awesome and ended in a cliffhanger.

Just go and watch it!

Worth a watch!
5 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
V is a 2020 Telugu movie which has a cop and a killer locking horns in a cat-and-mouse chase. The movie is a classy thriller alright.

With a run time of more than 2 hours, the film could have managed to truncate some of its scenes. All the actors did a fair job in the movie.

The movie was slightly above average. Nani, as the killer, did a good job. Things went pretty south in the end, as the killer who killed methodically till then suddenly engaged in a shootout!

Other than that, it's a one-time watch. I did enjoy the movie though.

A gripping detective movie!
2 October 2020
Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya is a 2019 Telugu movie which depicts a detective's journey to his first major case. A movie that is humorous-at-first glance but soon gets serious as the plot develops.

The protagonist who has a penchant for the interesting, stumbles upon his first breakthrough case or does the case stumble upon him?

The actors in the movie did a good job but there was room for more character development. The chemistry was lacking in some scenes where it could have got interesting.

Overall, the movie is a must-watch for all detective genre fans. Barring a few plot holes the movie doesn't fail to impress. It could have been better. But the movie did deliver the message it was intended to deliver.

The Social Dilemma is a documentary-cum-movie on the effects of social media on human beings, their lives, the society that they live in.

There's nothing much to say about this documentary except for the fact that it's real and it's happening. You gotta watch it to know it.

Do you own a smart phone? Do you own a TV? Then go and watch it! You ought to know about the other side!

HIT (2020)

Good
22 September 2020
Hit is a 2020 movie about a cop who is hell-bent on solving a missing person's case.

The movie had this buildup, this hype which can't be ignored. But in the end it failed to deliver all the hype that it had built up. The story could have been better. There were many loose ends which should have been taken care of. But that can be a cliffhanger for the sequel to be released in 2021.

Overall the actors were good. Some scenes lacked their conviction though.

To be frank, it's a one-time watch. Nevertheless looking forward for 'The Second Case'.
